Both of these movies look like they could be pretty good. They certainly have good pedigrees. If either or both should be picked up for R1 release I think that I will want to add them to my acquisition list.

i dont have the link currently but hoshi IS licensed its the reason the screening in canada was cancelled though i dont expect to find out who has it till anime expo or otacon. as for momo i guess it depends it could go to anyone but sentai would be the most likely or even NIS since it seems like the type of anime they would get. edit: here it is animenewsnetwork.com/news/2011-11-21/shinkai-hoshi-o-ou-kodomo-licensed-in-north-america |

Looks like I missed that one. Ah, well. Of course, the question now becomes: Who licensed Hoshi, and when will it be released. No news in the encyclopedia, yet.
As for Momo, I agree that it does seem like something that NIS would be most likely to go for, but Funi did a pretty good job on Summer Wars, so who knows? |

heh its okay i actually forgot about it up till now.  and i think crunchyroll might of gotten it...but then again since bandai is out of business so that might be out of the question or if they actually do have it we probably will just see streaming only or they could partner up with say rightstuf/nozomi to release it sub only. momo doesn't sound like funi's usuall style of anime but since it has some of eva's staff then they might be interested guess time will tell.
edit: actually...according to the page for it on here media factory is involved with it in japan so funi might get hoshi since they have a close relationship with them. |

After 5cm/s Crunchyroll said they were going to go into physical media again. I doubt Funi or Sentai would cancel a screening if they got it. I think Bandai would and considering they're new strategy of keeping their new licenses for others to sub-license that would explain why nothing has been announced yet. Oh well, not a big deal, I like Shinkai a lot, but I think it was the weakest of this four movies, I can wait to add it to my collection.

GKIDS has done well with getting the Ghibli retrospective in theaters and the Arrietty screening was neat. Now we have them getting more anime for the Children's Film Festival, and top quality titles at that. Actually, both films were hinted at last week at the special Arrietty pre-theatrical dub screening, as images from both Hoshi o Ou Kodomo and A Letter To Momo were shown to the audience before the film started. Although the images weren't labeled to being a a part of the film festival, it was pretty clear the films would be.
Also, I know GKIDS is saying that tickets go on sale Feb. 1st, but you can order them now through TicketWeb. |

I caught the world premiere of Momo back at TIFF, and it was really worth it. So I suggest y'all check it out if you can!

I've been eagerly anticipating both films since their related news items started popping up on ANN. From what I've seen of the promo videos, etc, they both look to be quite good. The staff behind them are certainly impressive. Hopefully, we'll see their North American releases sometime this year (preferably Blu-ray with English dub).
