I know the dubs or subs debate has been done to death but I’ve never seen a post about this.

I've been a long time supporter of the anti-censorship movement because why protect children from sex (excluding hentai and porn because that will just screw them up) and blood. I mean when they cut themselves do they not see blood. I can see protecting kids from sex when they are under 10 years old, but my school have sex ed in gr5, so what’s the point of censoring sex after 10:00, what parent lets their 9 year old stay up after 9:00. Plus kids see sex blood and violence on the news and that’s on at 6:00. As for swearing I was swearing when I was 8. Kids already know about it why censor it

I hate the way that various dubbing companies butcher anime. Because I think its stupid as I said I the ytv post. I wish they would leave well enough alone and just dub the anime instead of butchering it and censoring. It's no wonder that anime is usually classified as "for kids" and we otaku cant get a break from out families and people who don’t know about anime because they think its for kids.

So I invite debate I’m not above explaining myself further.
I also invite those who are with me on this subject to vent their frustrations about it here and let all those reading this tread to know what you think!!

Send this to Alfred Kahn's mailbox. He's the CEO of 4Kids.

I think it's less of an ideals things and more of a money thing. If an anime gets censored and edited and such chances are it will appeal to a wider audience and thus the company doing the editing will get more money, which is great for them but might not be great for us.

Most don't, but if it's on TV then it's going to get censored and sending letters ot 4Kids or CN isn't going to change that because, frankly, the FCC scares the daylight out of all of them. If it's being setup for broadcast then it's going to be censored, welcome to the modern age.

As for why censor it? Why promote it? I think the nation has enough problems at present as it is. Generally it's available on DVD uncensored from most american companies. In the end though you can thank Janet Jackson for inspiring the FCC's eagle eye.

Given the grammar and arguments in the second paragraph, he probably won't read any further.

chaos5001, your opinions are understandable, but censorship and the like are what help keep this country a little more manageable.

Kids at that young an age are highy susceptible to what they see either on TV or in real life. They probably won't know the difference, but I doubt there are enough responsible parents out there who are willing to teach their kids the rights and wrongs of life at such an early stage.

And so, this leaves the government to make oodles of articles and policies to sanction what kids and young teens are exposed to. And hopefully by the time they're old enough to understand these adult themes on their own, they can procede with the rest of life at their own discretion.

If you're going to complain, tell the government, have some stronger arguments or more in depth detail, and be prepared to waste a lot of time getting them to even listen because they have more important things to worry about right now other than uncensored anime on TV.

EDIT: Fixed a typo.

I think that we should be happy to even have anime on TV, much less DVD, over here in America instead of complaining about censorship.

In the words of Issac hayes:

"damn right"

The eyes of the FCC will always ensure that most anime on TV will never reach its true form.

But anime on tv has evolved over time. Remember "Cardcaptors", Escaflowne, Sailor Moon, and other stuff released in the 90's? What was done to One Piece is nothing compared to what was done back in the day. And besides, take a look at Adult Swim, and G4. A lot of thier anime on after 11pm goes on TV with the story intact and necessary edits and they do just fine. Anime on TV is getting better.

Disallowing dubs or censoring would also put alot of people out of a job, and all that to please purists while casuals would actually prefer the dubbing and censoring.

Like the way psychiatric patients are forcibly drugged with strong tranquilizers to make them more manageable, you mean?

tony and lupin make good points but i still think that censorship is pointless. most kids learn right and wrong from thier perents, their friends, and thier teachers not from tv. plus protected kids will be worse off as they will not know any thing about the real world.

most animes teach right and wrong (at least theats my impression) its always good versus evil granted the way its presented isnt always the best. but in the end most have the same basic message good always prevails over evil. the best example of this is dragon ball and dragon ball z (i have never seen and dragon ball gt) reasons for this are simple the z fighters (as they are called) are always saving the world from evil evan more basic is that goku can only use the nimbus cloud if he has a pure heart. kids use this as an example of how to live, aside from the fighting. i'm not condoning extreme violence but kids see that in the news and in the real world.

ps this was posted right after lupin's last post

Sort of, only some of us are actually sane. But it's better to be safe rather than sorry, I suppose..

Anyway, the government's hold over society and the discussion of uncensored anime on TV are two totally different topics, so I'll just stop here Anime catgrin.

I don't think they're different at all, but I'll bow to popular opinion and stop as well.
