Wow, when Theron states that he finds such a fanservice-laden show to be tired then you know it has problems.

I thought the saving grace of the sub version was the strong voice acting performances. Hell if it wasn't for Nana Mizuki I don't know if I would have even bothered with the series. The original felt leaps and bounds above the dub.

This is a great line because it makes this a very useful review. I'm sure that there are plenty of people for whom this is alluring, but to me it loudly screeches, "STAY AWAY." Of course the four episodes that I watched on Hulu and amounted to an exceptionally tedious and unpleasant experience accomplished that too. It's at least nice to know that I lose nothing by fleeing in disgust. |

I enjoyed the manga so I was pretty excited that it was going to get an anime adaptation... only to find that it wasn't an adaptation at all. The only thing the anime shares with the manga is the characters and the premise. The big changing point being spoiler[Tsukune's ghoul powers] never comes to pass (and I don't think it does in the 2nd season either, but I didn't bother watching) and the anime packed in a bunch of unnecessary fanservice that wasn't even in the manga for the most part. Sadly then the manga author saw the success of the anime and did another 'season' of the manga ramping up the fanservice so not only did Gonzo fark up this franchise with the anime, but they got the manga author change the tone of it as well.

Not really. The 2nd season of the manga doesn't have all that much more fanservice than the previous one. Definitely nowhere close to the levels the animes had. The manga also dives into serious shonen action plotlines which the animes lack.
I'll at least give the anime props for getting me interested in the characters and making me check out the manga. |

Meh. It's a mediocre show I blind bought only because it was an LE with a lenticular card and art book that caught my eye during a Funimation sale at TRSI. I actually only like the show because of the dub; I could listen to Brina and Monica bicker all day. Tia did a very nice job as Mizore and I loved Colleen's Inner Moka. Oh, and Ian as Ginei was very good as well.
That's because Gainax did that episode. I remember that episode catching me off guard as well and saying, "Boy, that looks like Gainax work". It's actually the good staff as well with Imaishi, Yoshigaki, and Hirata (who was the Directer and Chief Animator for Ben-to).
Eh, Jerry has a background in music (which is part of the reason he got the part in Beck), so I can't say I'm surprised by how good his singing was. Though I do definitely agree that other companies could learn from this and, I don't know, actually take the time and effort to dub the entire show and not exclude the singing parts. I actually sent them an email saying how much I appreciated them taking the time to not only dub the songs, but dub them well. |

I loved the manga, and I couldn't wait to see the episode when spoiler[Tsukune first got his temporary vampire powers and fought against that kitsune.]. It was so awesome. But my favorite episode was the one where, after many battles, spoiler[Tsukune actually turns into a ghoul from being poisoned by the vampire blood, and becomes a mad, violent beast.]. The next two episodes with spoiler[him trying to come to accept his new powers and the danger that comes with them] were very touching and well written.
Oh wait... my bad. THAT NEVER HAPPENED! Because this piss-poor excuse for pixelated pig-shit is an insult to the manga. It has absolutely nothing to offer except pantyshots. Everything about these characters is wrong. Tskune is 100% wimp, when in the manga he was extremely determined and protective, Kurumu is a selfish bitch when in the manga she is the most caring and loyal character of them all. THIS IS SHIT. |

Just so I can understand and at the same pace as you and Theoron, what other companies you're referring to have done dubs of shows that had some song inserted in an episode but was never dubbed in english? |

Yeah, I'm not big on fanservice, but I do like the characters in the manga so I figured the 2 seasons would be worth it even if it's comedy-only and they cut out the serious aspects of the manga. The artbox is well-done as well.

Off the top of my head Sentai didn't do the songs for Angel Beats. ADV didn't do the karaoke scenes in Azumanga Daioh, either. Then there's Bandai, who didn't dub the songs for K-ON in the show, though they did have them as extras. I also think there was a karaoke scene in Love Hina that didn't get dubbed, but it's been a few years since I've seen that, so I'm not sure. I'm sure I'm missing several, but those are all that come to me instantly. I just know that I, personally, have never watched a Funimation show that didn't dub the insert songs, and I appreciate that because leaving songs in Japanese just jerks me out of the moment and kills the tempo of the dub, no matter how good it is. |

Well, it didn't bother me that Bandai/Sentai didn't dub the songs for K-On! or Angel Beats EXCEPT in Angel Beats spoiler[when they sing the graduation song. It totally ripped me out of the moment for a minute, they really should have dubbed that one. Leaving the band's J-Pop songs in Japanese was one thing, but this just threw the mood off for a while.]

well give seen dub of it & yet i like it really so good to watch.
give bit deja vu of whole todd & alexis stuff yea if anyone seen my bride is mermaid but this time yea in school of monsters. yet whole series really worth my watch give so want dvds of it. make want it at least expand dvd to worldwide (besides region 3 area need anime dvds). |
