He's been trying to get his money's worth for those underwater cameras ever since The Abyss. Laughing

Wouldn't surprise me: your average person on the street, especially those young enough to remember watching Superfriends as kids, would likely have at least a vague idea as to who Aquaman is, and, even if they haven't seen Superfriends, or the more recent Justice League cartoons, Aquaman is one of those characters who is referred to semi-frequently in pop culture in-jokes in other places (usually because of the perceived lameness of his ability to talk to fish).

Meanwhile, ask anyone outside the anime/manga fandom niche who Gally/Alita is and you'll just draw a total blank.

While James Cameron is one of those directors who has the power to do pretty much anything he wants, you can be sure that studio suits would much rather greenlight a project based on a "known" property. (Though, I know, if it's Aquaman, the suits in question will be at Warner and not Fox, since Aquaman is a D.C. Comics property and Warner owns D.C.)

Anyway, this is just as I expected; James Cameron, post-Titanic, has the big-time director version of Attention Deficit Disorder, where he'll talk excitedly for a while about a project before he decides he'd rather do some other, completely different, project, never staying with one project long enough for it to reach any substantial level of production other than when he plays Steve Zissou and does an underwater documentary for IMAX.

I have no idea if GATSU watches it, but I don't think that HBO show has made it to Canada.

Hmm... but reading this page, it seems that both James Cameron and Warner Bros. are a lot more serious about making Aquaman than I had previously heard, unless this is all one big farce done for reality TV.

EDIT: Oh, it's not reality TV, it's just a scripted show. Yeah, I thought it was a bit funny that I hadn't heard of James Cameron doing Aquaman anywhere else. But his current infatuation seems to be something called Fathom.

AICN made a politically incorrect update which further supports the idea, by having Marky Mark as the lead.

Hollywood rumblings conflict between Battle Angel (adapted from the manga and anime) and Aquaman being James Cameron's next project. It's a bit of a stretch, but it's a lot more relevant than some of GATSU's other posts. Razz

Mike Turner managed to get his comic into Movie form? Gods let it not be a total ****-fest like Witchblade.

When they went to "comic con " on Entourage it was so obviously anime expo( I think, but it was an anime thing though).
