Urgh, just going to ignore the first post
What I don't like is reading about a license under DMP's Yaoi label, and then finding out that it's actually shounen-ai, and not "hard-core" stuff. They have a yaoi label, so they should license more of the real stuff! *sigh* Oh well, Gorgeous Carat still looks like a good manga with nice art. |

I wish they had picked Boys' Love as their umbrella term rather than Yaoi, but I can live with it. At least they're consistent. I'm sort of the opposite, haha... I tend to lean toward the lighter stuff. Usually their age ratings (16+, 18+, etc.) give a good indication as to what kind of content an upcoming manga contains, and they tend to post age ratings & other information about various volume ones long before they hit stores. So that's how I find out whether a title is likely to be explicit or not, assuming there's no one around to tell me. |

This isn't "hard" yaoi. I made that clear in the post that this was Shounen-ai type stuff, no pr0n involved. So while you might still hate it, it obviously isn't going to be sold in a porn store... It was marketed in Japan as Shoujo It's probably going to end up with a 13+ rating or something. PS: Please pay more attention to your spelling and what not. We actually have rules here regarding that. -t |

I don't know about that, I'd say 16+. Only the Ring Finger Knows was 16+, and there was absolutely nothing in there except for a kiss. Not that it matters much, but it annoys me that DMP upped the rating just because it was two guys. :/ |

Ah, but we couldn't let innocent young girls* become exposed to such content at the tender age of 13. After all, while casual heterosexual sex on TV and in movies is perfectly okay for PG-13 (it's wholesome and educational, after all), the mere sight of two boys kissing could corrupt our young ones beyond repair! *Ha! All said with an ounce of anger and a heaping helping of sarcasm. |

So wait, they're releasing Gorgeous Carat Galaxy, but not Gorgeous Carat? That's really annoying. It's like when ADV released Matentei Loki Ragnarok and Peacemaker Kurogane, but not Matentei Loki and Peacemaker... Annoying! Unless the whole series is just going to be under the title GC Galaxy, but I doubt that's the case. Oh well, I'll still buy it because it's Higuri You and I liked what I read of it scanlated, but I still wish they'd release the first series too.....

I keep reading shonen ai is a term that has pretty much passed out of usage & it's all under the blanket term yaoi now. It's outside Japan, particularly the US where people seem to care. Does it matter if it's shonen ai instead of hardcore? The story is what counts. If the characters take the story that far, fine, but if not, why force it? That makes it more porn than anything else--gratuitous sex just in the name of fan service. I don't know about you, but I read all this stuff (everything I know of that's been licensed & released in the States so far) for the story. My 2 favs right now are Only the Ring Finger & Skyscrapers of Oz because I like how the story read in both titles. Level C is close, but we're still getting the characters defined somewhat in the first 2 novels. I have Vol 3 pre-ordered(along with pretty much everything DMP has lined up), but will probably pre-order Vol 4 before 3 gets released. |

If my rather pink avatar didn't give you a clue then.... But yeah, I'm female. And I think it's perfectly normal to be a female anime fan and like yaoi/boys love (not that most female fans like BL, but it's safe to say that a lot of BL fans are female).
I'm aware that "Boys Love" is the more popular term in Japan right now. However, if you have to distinguish b/t the types of BL, then I think its easiest to say that a title's either yaoi or shounen ai. People care about this in the US because companies are a lot more anal about age ratings here, and fans like me want to know what they're getting. I'm not saying that I don't enjoy shounen ai/light BL titles. I've really loved Only the Ring Finger Knows, Fake, Legal Drug, Tokyo Bablyon, Gravitation. etc. I just feel that there's a dearth of yaoi/hardcore in the US right now, and that companies that have "yaoi" labels should live up to them. (But I guess I'm being rather whiny ) Sure I like BL with a decent story and good characters, but I don't think this should be turned into an issue about whether it's bad to read porn or not.
I've been thinking the exact thing. There's def. a bias here in the US. |

Perhaps I should re-state what I said/meant without sarcasm? Companies in the US can't take that sort of risk right now. If the anti-homosexual squads get their hands on a copy of a book with a happy and healthy homosexual relationship and discover that their young'uns are being exposed to it - there will be Hell to pay. Book burning, law suits, library bannings; the whole shebang. US companies need to be biased against giving these titles lower ratings because they might have to pay a price for not upping them. ...Unless by bias in the US you meant the whole climate which I was talking about in which case I have made an utter fool of myself by explaining the unnecessary. |

Yes, I meant the bias held by some very vocal groups in the US against gays and lesbians. Their influence is especially noticeable in the lack of homosexual characters in any sort of entertainment aimed at youth here in the US. To my understanding, it's this bias that causes DMP to rate a title as 16+ when it's perfectly appropriate for 13+ (or perhaps even 10+), in order to avoid any legal trouble. |

You underestimate US parents(overestimate?)
I would sit there & smile as HORRENDOUS things came out of the mouths of other parents escorting their innocents on field trips. Sometimes I countered, but overall, the ignorance was so rampant, it wouldn't have mattered. Not just on homosexual issues. Goths & strange hair, etc. As if any of that mattered. I do think more people are ok with homosexuality, but the anti's just happen to be more vocal while the ok's just keep quiet--live & let live. The mis-information is frightening. I remember on another site someone complaining homosexuals reduce the dating pool (no, they aren't interested in the opposite sex, so how could it?) I don't know if it's my daughter, but a large number of her friends seem to be gay or (even more) bi. (She's 14) Thank MediaBlasters for finally noticing us. They're putting out Sensitive Pornograph 9/27, Sukisho Vol 1 10/11 & I noticed today Right Stuf listed Legend of the Blue Wolves coming out in November which I remember somewhere on the net was listed as a yaoi title. |
