I think Tokyopop's contract for Kodocha may of run out or something. I think they took it off their website.

Yes, the same also happened for Marmalade Boy. I asked them about it last year and they said something to the effect that all the volumes are now available, and they don't feel like doing any more print runs, so they let go of the licenses.

I mentioned a few times that I believe that Detective Conan is one of the most overated titles in the market, but I never gave a reason why. Here's why I think Conan is overated: It's too repetitive.

Repetitive as in formulaic, yes. However, you've got live-action series stateside like Law & Order that is just as formulaic, and yet it's the longest-running drama in modern TV. I'd say there's more than a few parallels between Case Closed and Law & Order, with its self-contained episodes, its set structure, and its wide cast of characters.

Some people don't like watching something so predictable and formulaic. I find Case Closed to be very delightful, and it gets me to think while watching TV. And I like the characters for the most part. It's cool. I don't mind the Japanese references or the Americanization of names and places; they really don't get in the way of my enjoyment of the program.

Although we won't be seeing any more new episodes of Case Closed on Cartoon Network, I'm still going to record the episodes onto my DVD recorder and still get the DVDs as they come out. I like the show and will support it when I can.

That Momotaro Story is completely different from what I read once. Am I seeing things?

The one I remeber was that the Old Couple found a giant Peach in the river and took it home to eat. The Man took the first bite and instantly turned into a Younger Man. Surprised by this, the woman ate the Peach and also turned into a Beautiful Woman.

Later that night, they...."did the nasty."

A while later, they had a baby boy, and they named him Momotaro because of the Peach they ate.

Could I ask you where you heard that one from? Sounds interesting...but i think the one that most people probably hear is where the old couple find the giant peach and right when they are about to cut it, the baby boy pops out as a gift from the heavens because the couple was childless. Something like that.

I first heard it on a TV show called トリビアの泉 (Toribia-no izumi(sp?)).

The Full Moon manga is licensed by Viz now, so that at least makes a better chance for the anime to come here too.
Though come to think of it, Kodocha's manga's been here for a few years now but I don't think TokyoPop even put it into right to left format yet...

It's in right-to-left format. They (TokyoPop) say their first title right-to-left was Marmalade Boy...Kodocha came some months after Marmalade Boy began.

I'm surprised everyone is saying Detective Conan was a failure here. I knew a TON of people who loved the show when it was on. (Still know many now.) It was the second most popular anime on AS then. Unfortunately, most of these people were teenagers. Since Adult Swim is marketed towards 18-25 year old males, kids between the ages of 12-17 don't matter. I'm unaware if the fact it did have a lot of fans that weren't within the demographic matters, but I'd hardly speak as if it was a disaster like Super Milk Chan.

Thank you! Reading some of these questions make my head hurt, and I'm glad someone's finally decided to stand up for clear writing. Cool
I got called a "spelling nazi" for pointing somewhat the samething at a UK anime site. Crying or Very sad

Forgive me, but I find a certain delicious irony in the fact that you mangled that sentence.

If what you're saying is true, it might be an interesting idea for AS to revive Conan over the summer, since they could get back the 12-17 audience who now suddenly have much later bedtimes. But still, with all the new stuff that's now out, it wouldn't really be necessary. They can just run FMA and laugh all the way to the bank.

The comment about the world having to end in order for Gundam to end is quite accurate..... I don't think they'll end it until they milked the entire money cow. Very Happy

They're airing it right now. Every night at 4:30 AM Central. But they aren't getting new episodes and it is at a sucky time slot. Cartoon Network should have something in-between kids shows and Adult Swim. Detective Conan doesn't really seem to attract all that many 18-25 year olds...but there's too much violence for a timeslot 8-year olds can watch it at. Though I'm wondering what AS's objective was with DC. They started airing right before school got out last year...that's how it picked up all those younger fans somewhere in the middle of those 50 episodes.

I figured out the show I watched is called Hey! Spring of Trivia. They apparently aired the episode I watched in Japanese format in Episode 17 of the US Series.

Tvtome mentions the segment as Japanese Boy Not Born from Peach.

Perhaps that can help?

Actually it did in a way. Watching clips from the show, I noticed that the claims made by these people are pretty outrageous (the barking frog is a new type of cross-breed? An SBD isn't a fart because it doesn't make a sound?). I'm guessing that the peach story is the same way: someone claims that the story of Momotaro was toned down for children and that the original was much more risqué. Peaches in Chinese mythology represent immortality, so it makes sense (as far as myths go) that eating one would restore the couple's youth.

If their outrageous, then howcome they go outta their way to get Experts to verify the trivia?

I haven't seen the show, but what kind of credentials are being provided by these "experts"? After all, there has been more than one instance of credibility issues over the years, even from the most professional of sources. Given the angle that the show is coming from, the humorous aspect may given them more reason to hire an actor to "play" an expert. (Mind you, this is all speculative, because again, I've not seen the show.)

That is definitely a myth alright. I’ve been eating peaches for years and if anything I’ve gotten older. The French say that about oysters, or is that libido? Wink
