Probably has to do with the fact that CMX ain't exactly flying off the shelves rather than him bearing the full responseability of the TenTen censorship.

Before even the TenTen debacle, I rarely saw CMX comics being read by the kiddies or the teenagers. After the TenTen Debacle, I never see anyone pick-up any CMX products.

Either way, the censorship was probably more a company decision than his own. Even so, without a word from DC/CMX about Ten Ten, I hold no optimism at this point in seeing a domestic release that is uncensored.

Probably has to do with him being fed up with the corporate environment at DC and being forced to make really lame edits then take the blame for them...

Let's agree to disagree then.

I'm inclined to agree with Tempest on this one. Nothing in here shows that it was a "forced" resignation. Moreso, if there was anybody to be targeted due to the lack of sales, they'd probably go after their VP of marketing and sales, Stephanie Fierman. In comparison, a lead editor has very little say about the direction a company takes. You need somebody higher up if you are going to oust somebody.

And nothing says otherwise. So we can make as many wild accusations as we want, unless DC/CMX decides to reveal the info and fess up.

There's a big difference between making wild accusations and using common sense, logic, and deductive reasoning.

As with all such cases, if it was his descision to censor the manga, then he deserved to be sacked, and if he's just a fall guy then it's a shame, and the real culprits should be caught (no sense blaming Iraq).

Really Tenjo Tenge was a stupid idea for a comany like DC who wanted to preserve a sqeeky clean image. It's like picking up Penthouse Comix and trying to release a PG-13 version of it.

naw. That's what I love about DC. They were always willing to take some risks and sell stuff that doesn't fit thier "squeaky" clean image.

like back in the 70's when they made Teen Titan Speedy a heroin abuser for a story arc.

or during the 80's when Robin (the 2nd) gets beaten with a crowbar for a couple of pages, and tied up with HIS MOM, and having them explode in front of the Batman whose arrived too late! Oh yeah, and they had two phone numbers posted up on the ads featuring a bloody @#%$ up Robin for the readers to call and decide that will happen. Then the Joker becomes the Iranian ambassador...

and around then Mister Miracle's wife Big barda turned up in a porn video.

later during the 1990s, Starfire of the Teen Titans posed nude in a sleazy magazine during a very low point in the series.

and they had Superman die in a sidewalk slugfest. People actually fell for that as many flocked to the comic stores to take part in the greatest scam in comic book history.

And later Dick Grayson lost his virginity to Barbara Gordon.

and no..I am not making up any of that, I swear to god.

Nowadays, all thier shock goes into thier other imprints. Vertigo books for example had some disturbing stuff like Preacher (Blasphemy!), Fables (Beastiality!), and Hellblazer(!). With Wildstorm, the Authority was pretty pretty jacked up too. There's more but I can't think of right now.

Heavily edited manga for DC was a pretty bad idea. After so much they have done..why bother with editing? But at least thier not pimping anime style versions of thier American comics. I always found that annoying about Marvel Comics when they did that.

Gen 13 had it's fair share of stuff, including a Lesbian Main Character, a man trapped in a tot's body into Mild Cheesecake Betty Page-Type Bondage whom wanted to "mate" with the Gen 13 Females, and a few other things.

interesting article.

I have only watched a few episodes of Tengo Tenge.. Why did Tom Spurgeon refer to the manga as a "rape romp?!!!"

Well... while the manga is fairly explicit... the anime is pretty toned down.

I suspect he meant it in one of two different ways.

One) Referring back to the fact that it's a visually raw and hardcore manga in general.
Two) Ignorance, taking the worst of out Ten Ten, throwing it out there as if that's all that Ten Ten is about. (considering there is the rape scene in the first volume)
