T.M.Revolution is really J-pop, not J-rock... ^^; 90% of his stuff is synthesized techno sounding pop.

I didn't' realize the request had been for more than just j-rock groups...so i'll elaborate on my list. Some of the people on my list, have had U.S. releases (such as Cornelius, Hyde and L'Arc~en~Ciel). But others, you may have to import. Just because it doesn't have a U.S. release doesn't automatically make it bootleg. In the past I have bought Korean region CD's (cheaper than importing the Japanese version). But you can get Japanese import CD's from anywhere from Little Tokyo (in Los Angeles) to amazon.com. Anyways, on with the list

J-Rock:
Miyavi
Gackt
L'Arc~en~ciel
Malice Mizer
X Japan
Orange Range
The Pillows
Hyde

Shibuya Kei:
Cornelius
Towa Tei
Fantastic Plastic Machine
Cibo Matto
Buffalo Daughter
Pizzicato 5

J-Pop:
Crystal Kay
M-Flo
Jinsean
Utada Hikaru
TM Revolution

As you can see, my exposure to J-Pop is pretty limited..but that is a list of most of the J-Music groups I do or have listened to. Hope you find something you like out of the bunch...

Hm, on top of the ones that everyone has named, I would recommend D'espairsRay, Inugami Circus Dan, Merry, and FAKE? as well ^^

I know, its just the price that bothers me. I'd rather buy a few manga than a single CD at the same price.

I can understand that. That is why I mentioned my purchase of the Korean version of Smile (L'Arc~en~Ciel album). Korean versions of J music albums, are drastically cheaper, which is why the CD case says "for sale only in Korea." Buying a Japanese CD will cost you about $40, but if you buy the Korean version (which isn't bootleg) it only costs you something like $12-15.
