I'm about 30 episodes behind on crunchy but now I want to watch that episode even though I probably won't get the reference, now that its been banned somewhere...
Funny that.

No .. the anime was brave ... the broadcaster was a coward, although I don't know if coward is the right word when you have lawyers breathing down your neck.

Where are you going to pirate it from if it wasn't broadcast?

Not sure what you are saying here. It was the TV broadcaster that pulled the plug on re-airing the episode. It was an anime production company that originally produced the episode.

"So here's another episode of Gintama, living on the edge."
I guess they didn't realize how true that was.

Frankly, I'm surprised that it took this long for a Gintama episode to be pulled for one reason or another. This is, after all, the same show in which I remember someone pooping on the head of a shogun... the South Park of the anime world.

I think some of the conflicting reports are due to intentional plausible deniability where a representative of the party may do it on their own without informing the people parodied. So I believe it's true that they themselves didn't contact or order people to contact TV-Tokyo.
In any case, though it's understandable, it still sucks and either they need to get more balls or defamation laws are too loose or broad (ala UK)

It was broadcasted originally, just not on other networks afterwards. Its not a big deal though, its just making fun of some Japanese politician.
