As far as I know, there's never been an english rendition of the Evangelion OP. At least, it's not on any of the CDs I've ever heard.

I actually think the song would sound a bit ridiculous in English.

Indeed. You would have to use ADV's original Karaoke-friendly translation to fit the music.

I ought to warn you that this is more or less the hallmark of being an obsessed Eva-fan. If I had a penny for every time I'd heard that song being sung (badly and off-tune) by fans who obviously hadn't a trace of Japanese skills, I'd never have to work again.

Not that this should hold you back - if you feel like singing, then by all means, sing your heart out. But if you really want to sing it in Japanese, why not learn the language? It really isn't that hard.

Speaking of alternative English translations, I recall someone singing a rather funny song to this tune, but spoofing Dragonball where the drawn-out four-syllable opening "zankoku" was replaced by "Son-Goku". It was very amusing....I wonder if I can scare up a copy of the text, for your entertainment.... hmm.

I usually like them the way they originally are, too. The Rurouni Kenshin opening "Freckles" sounded a bit...ridiculous to me.

Just to veer wildly off topic, a friend of mine once went to a kareoke bar and sang that Alanis Morisette song "Thank You" with Pokemon character names.

"Thank you Pikachu, Thank you Geodude..."
