On the Loups-Garous movie, was there REALLY a male character named Ayumi in the main cast? Because on the Japanese website, it's clearly labeled a female:

Oh god, does Loups-Garous sound bad... And even Chris Beveridge's review had the whole "enjoyable when in the right mindset" caveat, which isn't always encouraging. Admittedly, this movie didn't interest me when it was announced as licensed, and what Zac said definitely hasn't helped improve my feelings on it, but rather it lowered them.

I'm not surprised to hear that stuff that does great on VOD is also stuff that does great on home video. It would be interesting to see a title that can actually be successful in one venue but not the other. Having Verizon FiOS I do now have access to TAN's VOD service, but looking at what's available it's mainly stuff that, if I wanted to watch them, I'd prefer to buy them on DVD. That's where my question about the partnerships with companies like Illumitoon & Enoki came in, since if titles that I can't get on DVD at any time become available on VOD then I'd definitely would suscribe for it and start using it. For example, knowing that AMDriver episode 14, which was never subbed (even through bootlegs) was available dubbed on the VOD service back in 2008/2009 would have made me suscribe, but since TAN wasn't on Verizon at that time I couldn't sign up. Pretty much for me to use the VOD service I want stuff that I can't get on DVD, since that will always be my preferred method of watching anime. If more stuff like B't X, AMDriver, and the like was to appear on VOD then I would more than likely go for it.

Finally, where the hell was Christian? He was mentioned as being there and even thanked at the end, but all we ever heard was Stacey... Overall, it was a short but neat episode.

I think the only way that streaming becomes more than a promotional tool for companies, and actually profits them is for people to treat it more like a viral video. Views much jump about 10X what they are getting now. If some show gets 10,000 views now it's got to get 100,000 views. If a major simulcast like FMA: Brotherhood gets 100,000 views than the next big major new series needs to get 1 million views.

The problem with streaming is that fans that now about them fully expect other people to know where to get a series. I follow several people who love Utena (Zac, and JesuOtaku in particular) but none of them have actually talked about how Nozomi is streaming it at Youtube.

I did some googling, and Ayumi is a female character voiced by a male in the english dub. It appears that Sentai mistakenly thought Ayumi was male.

The intention for Christian was to pop in if he had something to add, which never really happened - but he was there and said hello, so yeah.

I didn't know that High school of the Dead is this popular in US. lol
I though IS would be thier most popular show.

I think streaming can be profitable if you get alot of pay subscribers like NFLX, Hulu, CR. Sell ads is not the way to go.

Wow, that speaks volumes about quality control at Sentai, doesn't it?

Wow, short ANNCast this week. It was good, but it was just a little on the shorter side than usual.

Loups-Garous : Ummm... ummm... ummm... that just sounds... bad, for lack of a better word. But now I think I will have to watch this at some point down the line (in a few years, maybe) just out of morbid curiosity. Razz

Poor Christian hardly got to say anything, but at least he got to say "hi" and was acknowledged.

I definitely learned a little bit about how VOD works through the interview with Stacy. While there was nothing much in the interview that was terribly earth-shattering, it was still informative.

Yay AnnCast time. My favourite time of the week. AnnCast is the best thing to listen to at work bar none. Thanks, Zac!

I've been wanting to check out that show for a while now. You have a thousand thanks!

EDIT: They are also streaming Emma, yay! First episode of that expires on Nov 28 though, better make sure I don't forget.

Yeah, the ad streaming at Crunchyroll seems more like self-funding advertising for the subscription service.

If they messed up on the gender of one of the characters in Loups-Garous movie then I wonder how accurate or good the translation for the script is.

I was really curious about this title as I had heard that it had a decent following for the novel and thought I might pick it up for pre-order on Blu-ray. Whoa boy I'm glad I didn't do that. I first checked it out online and what I saw did not impress me. The description led me to believe that most people were supposed to be socially maladjusted, isolated, and spent most of their time on-line. In one sense it reminded me of Issac Asimov's story "The Naked Sun", in which people are taught to fear human contact and only communicate thru viewing machines not person to person contact. However, there seemed to be quite a few social people walking around in this movie. I think the story was supposed to be a murder mystery in a Utopian setting that included alienation due to technology with a suprise twist at the end, think spoiler[Soylent Green]. Instead we got some weird miss-mash that had some of those qualities merged with your typical anime story about friendship plus the shoe-horned in references to manga and the Scandal music video thingie. It was a bit schizo, does it want to be a perky story about friendship of these girls overcoming things or does it want to be a dark tale of murder? It certainly does not blend them well, if that was what they were trying to do. As far as the ending its just...ugh.

I totally agree with Zac's reaction and I'm glad I checked it out otherwise it would have been one of the worst blind-buys I ever made.

That's the first episode of the second season that is expiring on that date. The first two episodes of the first season don't expire, but most of the first series has expired (only the last episode is still up right now).

So she knew nothing about the workings of ADV? I'm surprised by that. Not trying to suggest anything other than genuine surprise.... and I'll leave it there.
