Well, at least there might be an actual budget, unlike the Madhouse/Marvel deal (disregarding X-Men).

It's like they're trying to get out of the ghetto to be a worldwide mainstream success.

Probably a failure project, because mainstream and worldwide = no controversy plot for the west = no blood, no ecchi, no moe, just a bland and crap "cartoon" like the last crappy hollywood productions for families. -_-
No thanks, anime should be made by japanese only with a japanese plot or aren't anime at all. Imo. |

Well, I'll be very interested to see what - if anything - comes out of this. I wish the new venture the best of luck and certainly hope it turns into a going concern.

The Animatrix didn't fail, neither did Batman: Gotham Knight or Halo Legends. However, I'm a little mix on the Marvel anime. I welcome this project done by both US and Japan. I'm hoping for more western IPs getting anime adaptation. I also would like to see if they can do a better lice-action adaptation of anime/manga better then most studio. I think All Nippon Entertainment should hire Shane Black to help write story and screenplay for them after he defy Warner Bros not wanting any changes on the live-action Deathnote. Also I wonder if All Nippon Entertainment can maybe help Japan remake American films (just to balance the movie remake fiasco, hey we remake a lot of film from Japan). Japan already remake Sideways, Ghost, and Paranormal Activity, would be nice for them to find a American film that could work for a Japanese remake. |

Well maybe if you try watching some American animated shows and films more often, you will see that U.S., like Japan, does have a sense of bloody violent content and sexual fan service in animated works. Try watching U.S.-made prime-time/late-night shows "Family Guy", "South Park", "Spawn", "American Dad", and "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" and as well as U.S.-made adult animation films like the "South Park" movie, "Batman: Under the Red Hood", and "Heavy Metal" for instance and you'll see my point. As for the moe thing, even U.S. animation has its cute female characters. Just a matter of sensibilty of what's considered cute-looking. Penny from "Inspector Gadget" and Smurffet from "The Smurfs" are amoung perhaps the most-well known examples of characters fitting in U.S. sensibilities of female cute appearances. Sometimes, I feel that some anime fans spend so much time complaning about how different U.S. animation is from Japanese Animation that they lose sight of their commonalitites in the process, or at least they prefer to think that only anime has the "true sense" of bloody/graphic violence, sexual overtones, drama, horror, and female character cuteness in animation. As for anime, lets not forget that there are already anime that don't really focus on Asian cultures. For example, there's that 1970s "Heidi: Girl of the Alps" anime. |

You're really gasping at the straws. Those aren't comparable. At all. |

This would be interesting to see a joint effort here between the U.S and Japan producing anime series, shows or movies and see what the turn out would be having the collaboration of two very different but distinct cultures could influence the way the style or storyline/plot is created and how it would be produced for an international market.
