Commonly known, eh...I can see some horrified soccor mom showing the article around through thier social circles. And the poor kids come home to find out thier "anime" is all in the trashcan outside. "Well, it for your own good."
Quote: | anime has been given a black eye from a perverted offshoot of the industry called Hentae, where cartoon characters are bound and raped |
that brings a bizarre image of some Looney Tunes short gone horribly wrong. A more accurate presentation would be Hentai: where animated young virgins with overdeveloped breasts are a bound and raped often by bizarre wierd tenticle monsters!"[/quote]

thats really stupid about the search in the house, why do they had to? its not illegal to have porn. and about the hentai, like kids nowdays cant find something that has sexual content in TV or Internet or even in the streets.
Hentai is art like porn.

Huh, I never knew that Hentai was only anime/manga that involved someone being bound and raped. Good to know!
Another thing I find funny is that is not illegal to own lolikon, it is illegal to sell/purchase within the United States and Canada.

Lolicon is legal in the U.S. You have to be 18+ pretty much or suffrage here. I don't know the law though. I might be wrong can anyone correct me.

Well, I'm not sure in America, but in Europe, under-age pornography is considered illegal. The problem is that I don't know if that also counts for drawings

Yeah ... I can see this happening too. But you could say it's to be expected. It is, after all, people who probably don't know what they're talking about commenting on what other people who probably don't know what they're talking about said they saw.

What about holland though?I thought the age of constent for such things is very young.I mean they do have books of acutal photography and movies involving young children.Just curious.
The person who did this in canada should have known better.Plain and simple.Chalk it up to not checking the laws and just rolling the dice and taking the chance.

Hentai is drawings. Drawings. It isn't real life. Nobody's being exploited in absolute fantasy.
As soon as you add "Lolicon" in the mix, the situation becomes a lot more volatile, but I think the above applies.

Has it? I doubt any anime studio representitive is losing sleep over it (as they shouldn't).

I think, when they say "anime has been given a black eye", they are referring to uninformed people's perception of anime, and not the actual industry itself.

That sounds like what happens if the same person looks up "anime" or something on Google and gets returns of "hentai," prompting further investigation and subsequent sensationalistic harping within aforementioned circles. Certainly that has to happen an awful lot due to ignorance...
Speaking of ignorance, that's what happened in this news item. You'd think that he would "check both ways," but I guess not. And as the saying goes, "Ignorance of the law is not an excuse."

or they are referring to the result of the article...like a prophetic vision or something.

As far as I know, it's not illegal in the U.S. since the Supreme Court threw out the Virtual Child Porn law about 2 years ago. I remember they had several articles about in on ANN since technically it would have made anime like Kite illegal and even movies like Traffic where an 18+ year old actress played a younger role.
You could still get in trouble for selling it if it was declared obscene like any other kind of hardcore porn, but it wouldn't be "kiddie porn."

Oh, in the US underage porn will send you to state prisons usually, which are far far worse than the federal ones. In Oregon the relevant laws make it a Class B Felony. 10 years and 250,000 USD if convicted. It depends on whether or not it is considered to be child porn, (or arguably Encouraging child sexual abuse in the first degree, which makes buying or selling it illegal, even if you don't have copies anymore and is vague enough that it doesn't have to be real photos).
And honestly, seeing how sick the particular mangas sounded, I don't feel bad one bit.

Regarding the "anime has been given a black eye" quip:
Kinda reminds me of the MSM's news articles on video games. 99 percent of the time, they will mention Grand Theft Auto at one point, screw up a description of GTA's gameplay and leave you with the thought that all video games are violent and depraved in morals.
