That's a damn shame. I was looking forward to reading this title, but since DC want ahead and "americanized" it, I'm going to pass. I liked Libertus' comments about this being "a sad day for manga fans". Tenjho Tenge is definitely not a kids' series, and unfortunately, it looks like DC went ahead and turned it into one.
I'm still going to watch the anime, though. ZODDGUTS, thanks for the warning! |

The anime is water down version of the manga.
So basically, you're getting an edit adaption of the manga. |

DC didn't turn it into a kids series. They're simply doing something similar to what Hollywood is doing with horror movies these days: toning down the rating from R to PG-13 in order to expand the potential audience ("Cursed" was originally going to be rated R before the studio forced Wes Craven to tone it down to a PG-13 rating). CMX toned "Ten Ten" into a Teen rating to help expand the audience for the comic. Of course, that doesn't mean I condone this kind of activity. On the contrary, I find this kind of censorship sickening. But I don't think the editing was made to turn it into a "kids series". |

Considering a great deal of the content outside of the removed nudity is incredibly violent at times, it's pretty much a useless change. I for one will be writing an actual letter to CMX and advising them of my intentions not to purchase a product like this. After all, this isn't 15 years ago where more caution was needed in the release of such titles.
Considering the industry has more or less "standardized" such releases with warning stickers and shrinkwrap, it's a shame to see this happen. I for one will keep the fanscans and buy the original Japanese releases so I can actually support the original creators while keeping censors from profiting from the money in my wallet. While I would have preferred a proper release of Ten Ten, it doesn't look like that's going to happen, so I'll just have to take a different road and do the next best thing. |

You all need to realize that there's a difference between completly destorying something and censoring pornohraphy, which Tenjho Tenge is. Whether or not they wanted to, DC knew that if they didn't do this, some kid would pick it up off the shelf and they'd get sued.

If that's the case, than Beserk, Lone Wolf and Cub, IWGP, Samurai Executioner, Vagabond and all the other manga with strong sexual content are porno too? I don't see many people sueing the publisher for these title. If you think TenTen is porno, than put Ninja Scoll Movie (anime), Golden Boy and Gantz up there with porno. And isn't this the same misunderstand that a lot of ignorant people think anime/manga is pornography simply because it has nudity. Now if you read a hentai manga that focus on sex, than that's pornography, If another company like DMP or Darkhorse would have handle it, you can sure bet your ass that there wont' be any edits. TenTen was created for adults, CMX is trying to market it for the teens. Last edited by darkhunter on Thu Mar 03, 2005 1:08 am; edited 3 times in total |

If Tenjho Tenge were pornography, it wouldn't be made available in a place where a child could get it. All CMX would've had to do was release it shrinkwrapped with an 18+ sticker.

Chill out there, kiddo.
I never said that those things were pornographic as well, but you really just have to admit that TT is rather graphic. I was suprised when looking at those scans at how graphic it was. You just need to consider the company's point of view too. If they were to shrinkwrap it and only sell it at adult vendors, then the title wouldn't sell nearly as well. And if they can't sell it, they'll stop producing it. Better to have something edited than nothing at all. |

First of all, you never mention anything about them tryiing to sell more books, you said that mature content was going to make parents sue. Second, we are all aware that CMX is tryng to market it to a larget audience by editing it, but you fail to notice that Samurai Execution (being the #1 selling title of Jan) and Berserk (being #6) are just two of the mature title to sell really well even if they're shrinkwrap and market for adults. Most yaoi title are selling really well too, so becaue it's for adults doesn't mean it's not going to sell and not all teen manga sell well either (look at all the title that arnt' mature being cancle from ADV and CPM). And finally, TenTen had a large following before it was license. I bet hurdreds of people were waitiing to get their hands on this manga (including me) yet we are not buying it anymore due to the edits. Good way to alienate most of the fans and follower of the series. The explicited content was one of the main reason that made it stood out and kept people intereested. Actually no, Berserk has extreme violence and also has sex and rape scenes and yet it's being distributed to Barnes & Nobles, Borders, Suncoast and even comic book stores. Heck the first page in the first volume has the main character having sex with a female which turns herself into a demon. Oh and btw Berserk one of Darkhorse best selling titles. CMX should have done the same thing what Darkhorse did with Berserk give it a 18 and older buying warning label and shrink wrap it and it still would have sold well. |

Edit list!! Edit List!! Oh, and I am seriously considering a Class-Action Lawsuit against CMX/DC. "100% the way the original Japanese creators want you to see it." is outrageously blatant false advertising. |

Lawsuit for what? Cospiracy to comit mass edits? Criminal boob deprivation? 8)
And, FYI, class-action is referred to a combined suit of several similar cases. You can alsways try for "False Advertising" under Consumer Protection Act, but you are are going to lose, because, for all we know, Shuiesha and Ogure have authorized those edits when they signed a licencing argeement (broadly worded, no doubt), so their advertizement is 100% authentic. Oh, and by the way, do you even have a... you know... lawyer? |

I think Haru to Ashurea has a point, even if he has trouble making it. The question is: was the editted content of any real value to the story? I haven't seen or read Ten Ten, so I have no idea. Can the story move on without the removed material?
From what I have heard from the story on the main page, it seems the answer is yes. There are some dialogue edits that shouldn't have been done ("other trouble-maker" instead of foreigner... wtf?), but the vast majority of edits appears to be sexual in nature, and don't hamper the story with their presence. All in all, it doesn't seem like much to get so worked up about. |
