Well, I don't buy that much anime. I mostly rent a lot of titles and I'll only purchase the ones that I really like. If I had to give you a ball park figure of what I've actually purchased, it'd probably be around $300-$350.
I know that isn't a lot compared to some other people on this forum, but what can I say? I'm a very money conscious guy.

On anime? About SGD$30,000. That's maybe about USD$16,600 plus. But that's over a period of some years. Didn't buy much before 1997 (when I got my first job).

I'm a little on AHZ's side when it comes to money. I doubt I've come close to $1,000. Student loan payments are the bane of my existence....

You all make me seem like a novice. I've only spent about $60 on anime, but almost $180 on mangas, which suprises me every time that I do the math.

I have spent around $15,000 over the past 7 years. I wish i knew about places like deepdiscount back then, could have saved me a crap load of money considering i went to suncoast for my anime for the longest time.
Having a job does make it a lot easier to buy more anime though. Before i had a job it was like one dvd/vhs a month, maybe 2 if i got to mow someone's lawn.

On just anime? Not a hell of a lot, maybe $1500 ~ $2000
On manga? About $4000 ~$5000
On original anime/manga related art (from auctions) ... about $2000
On conventions $20,000 but keep in mind this is a "professional expense" for me.

Only $2000? I remember you mentioned you had tons of anime. Freebies? Job-related perks?
Man, that makes me jealous.

I have in several years spent maby around 150$ sadly most of it was on bootlegs. Um Not sure if netflix would count but been using it for 5 months basicaly just renting anime so about 75 there.
Reason why I spent most my money on bootlegs is IM cheep and only really got money at Christmas or on my birthday. Well some of it was just gift certificates for ebay. Best way to get anime if you dont have much money.

2 or 3 thousand on anime (I'm pretty sure I spent around a thousand just swapping out VHS for DVD.) Ranma, Urusei Yatsura, Dragonball Z, and Robotech.
Manga wise, atleast $500. Most of it toward GTO, Love Hina, and Lupin and the fact I bought a ton with the Waldenbooks card.
Other stuff, like wallscrolls, figures, other stuff that I have in the around the joint, $600.
And lastly, CDs. $50 before my radio station, $400 after the station.

Bootlegs still cost me quite a bit. Boots from Hong Kong cost me SGD$90 per series, on 4 (sometimes 6) DVDs. That's about USD$50 per series. I bought Kanon for SGD$45, Madlax for SGD$90, for example. That explains why I have spent so much and yet have only 224 titles (series, OVAs and movies). I'm not proud at all about the fact that I had to spend so much on my hobby. In fact, I'm furious, but that's how it is here. I've got to live with that.
The problem is that there's isn't much of a market here for anime, and when someone brings this stuff in, they charge exhorbitant prices for the products.
