As I feared, Tokyopop has removed "Slayers" from the Novels listing in the back of the newly released manga. Tokyopop has removed all but 6 of the 15 novels from their website.

Again, I'm not the least bit surprised...but damn. *goes to cry in corner*

Hmm.. Confused And just when I thought there was a decent potential for the things. I wouldn't panic too much, though. At least until something official is announced. For all I know, they might've thought it looked a bit daunting to have so many novels yet unpublished for a curious fan. Confused *Shrugs*

I just wish someone would show a little interest in the Boogiepop or Fushigi Yuugi novels.

Hmmm. Are you sure they're just trying to cut back on things a bit? I know Tokyopop tends to advertise release dates and such waaay ahead of time. Maybe they're trying to take breather and gauge things. I wouldn't worry, too much.
What will come to pass, will come to pass.

The novels have caught my eye too but I didn't buy them. In an effort to make them the exact same size and shape as the graphic novels they sell, TokyoPop gave them an absolutely ridiculous font and spacing design. I think it made the whole product look sparce, as if it was written for small children, not adults.

I do hope that companies continue to look towards novels. There's tons of Fushigi Yugi novels and even Ayashi no Ceres novels. I would love to see a translation of Twelve Kingdoms also so that I can finish the story.

I think we could help by putting in requests at the local library for the books.

I don't know. They were Young Adult fiction to begin with, and YA books do tend to have bigger fonts and spacing.

But on the whole, I do agree with you on that one. They were ugly, and you couldn't tell them apart from the graphic novels. I was thinking of picking up one or two, just to see, but they were ... unappetizing.

I think that the single reason that Tokyopop chose Slayers was because it is targeted at youth, and was hoping to mix it in with the manga. But from a reader standpoint, I think "Slayers" (as much as I love the franchise) was a horrible, horrible choice for an expensive novel push.

But of course, for any real literature to have a market potential it will have to be targeted to a general audience. And even then, just bearing the mark of "Tokyopop", or similar, may still see it lumped into "hobby" titles (like D&D), I'd put money on it that thats where Hunter D will end up if its not done in manga style as well.

Well the novel line are actually supposed to look different, with each property. The younger titles will look younger and the older titles the same. It's only a matter of time before you see a line of for varying ages and interests, as there are many titles in the process of being licensed and released.

Hopefully they start translating Sekai no Senki. I'm very interested in seeing the differences between the novels, the manga, and the anime.

I agree! That's another good series of novels that needs to be translated.
