It says you need to be s subscriber (which I am) and become a fan on Facebook (which I have) - but it is not clear how they connect these two things.
It is open worldwide which I greatly appreciate.

A site that streams anime offers a promotional contest to attract new subscribers with a prize being a new, hyped apple gizmo that will (I assume) run the site's streaming anime app. I'm not a CR fan, but I'd say it is at least anime-related.

I too am confused how they would know you are a facebook fan.
And "premium membership" (as it says on CR's announcement) does mean any paid membership, right? Not their combined anime/drama membership, right?

I would like an iPad... but I don't quite want it enough to join the steaming cesspool that is Facebook. Also, it's nice to see Crunchyroll appealing to the tech people out there, but I think it would be nice if they widened their focus beyond just Apple products. Well that's enough ranting out of me for one day

Ironically no, the iPad doesn't run flash so it can't stream videos.
I guess since it's for subscribers, they expect you to download episodes to your iPad to watch them. Then again, is that feature going down with the download-to-own service?
I'm utterly confused by this contest.

There's an app for that.
Seriously though, Crunchyroll has an app for iphone/ipod touch so if it doesn't work with iPad already I'm sure they're probably going to release one that does. Also, new features are being added to the iPad even now, so there's no reason they can't develop a flash program update to their firmware.

Some of those questions can be answered by reading the announcement at CR.
pple just announced iPad pre-orders are available, and we're giving away one iPad to a lucky winner.
We will give away a 16GB Wi-Fi version iPad to one lucky winner (selected on March 31)... oh and it'll come preloaded with the new Crunchyroll iPad application! Be the first on your block to own the iPad, AND watch anime and drama in HD on it... for FREE!
To be eligible:
All you need to do is become a Fan of the Crunchyroll Facebook Page and be a Crunchyroll Premium Member on the day of March 31st (Pacific Time). There's no purchase necessary - you can simply get the two-week free trial! Anyone worldwide is eligible as long as you can accept mail packages.
We will pick one lucky winner on March 31st. The lucky winner will be announced on the front page, and you will be contacted by email and private message.

I would also venture to guess that this contest is illegal in many states that require disclaimers that no purchase is necessary. In Maryland, that includes even providing a credit card number for trial memberships as a purchase. Even though no money is removed from the account, once the trial membership ends, you need to opt out or otherwise you are automatically billed. Maryland classifies this as a pre-purchase or as they call it a "pre-condition" and will not allow residents to enter such contest.

People could opt out any time during the free two week trial. If people only want to enter the contest then they should tried the free trial during the last week and canceled it during the beginning of the second week of the trial.
The Crunchyroll application will be installed on the iPad before giving it to the winner. I have it on the iTouch and it works great as a Crunchyroll premium member (No Ads).
