Now now gatsu Disney isn't the only one that did the cash in bit...look at Dragon Ball GT by Toei, any of the Gundam series past Char's Counterattack by Sunrise just to name an example.

I registered simply to state how disgusted I am that you would give away the ending of the movie in the news article without a spoiler tag or something. Considering almost nobody here has even seen this movie I can't believe you would actually tell how it ended.

Cheese, you registered just for that? -_- Um just a question...does this circus thingy have anything to do with the sequel "Castle in the Air" in the slightest? because it sure don't look like it... |

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Gundam was a cash-in franchise from the very start. There was no significant "selling out" going on after any certain point, they just decided to give the creative reigns to someone other than Tomino after a time (and if you want to call that a "selling out" point, then it'd be after Victory Gundam; Tomino also helmed F91 & Victory following Char's Counterattack). |

I hope this won't deter some of you guys from watching this film. This is a top notch film and I recommend everyone to watch it.
I might be coming to Tokyo during the spring so I might consider visiting the exhibit. Too bad I have to wait until the summer to watch the film with english subtitles (hint, hint). Ranmah |

I don't think everything Miyazaki did was classic either. I'd disagree with Gatsu on Spirited Away, but thought that Princess Mononoke and Castle in the Sky were substandard compared to his other works.

At least you're not me. I think Miyazaki peaked with Kiki's Delivery Service and everything he's done since he started taking himself too seriously as an artist has only been "okay" to "pretty good".

I'm wondering how everyone's going to take the upcoming releases when they finally come. Will they be good or overhyped? (I'm especially worried with Nausicaa, since the summaries I read sound kind of lame compared to the manga). I agree that Kiki was probably the last classic, but SPirited Away wasn't bad.
Personally, my favorite was Cagliostro

Most people judge movies to some degree before they see them based on trailers and other available information, like reviews or spoiler summaries. Time, money, and patience are all limited, so you simply can't see everything that comes along.
I have no desire to see Son of Mask, I think it looks like crap (save for Ben Stein). Obviously, I can't write a review of it without seeing it, but it doesn't stop me from having an opinion about it. My opinion might be baseless and unfair, but I'm not interested enough in testing it by seeing what I think most other people with discerning tastes will avoid. |
