Huh, I kinda want to buy this.

Edit:
I don't think the article mentions where it will be sold, anyone know where I can maybe get one when the release date hits?

According to their website, it'll be available as a paid download from a few different websites. They list them at the bottom of this page.

I was kind of hoping it would be on a CD for sale at places like Amazon, but I guess not... Sad But at the same time I'm still kind of excited because I've been waiting forever to try it out! It looks pretty fun!

There's also already Manga Studio by Celsys sold in stores for years. Celsys is the developer of Japan's most-used animation software RETAS Pro.

Just remember for ya Westerners though, just because ya can now make manga without drawing doesn't make you a mangaka: the text balloons are made left-to-right! Laughing

I have to wonder how effective Manga Studio is...?

All I need is a simple manga program that provides screentones and border/boxes layouts. =.= I can draw so that is not an issue. Obtaining screentones is a pain... I bought some in Japan, ordered screentones online, and bought a book containing screentone patterns. Even used the free screentones online... Yet, I don't feel satisfied...

Upon testing out the ComiPo! demo, I got to say, I'm not impressed. It takes so much damn time to manipulate everything, I might as well do my own half-assed drawings then I want to do little comic scenes. Also, it would only be useful if you're doing slice of life stuff.

And the screen tones selection (admittedly for the demo) are minimal at best, and the effects aren't really that much use. I think using actual screen-tones would yield better results.

Manga Studio has great inking tools that feel very natural to use, and does provide a wide range of screentones, both plain and textured or patterned. The main downside to it is that it's not very user-friendly so it can take a while to learn how to use it effectively. Personally I prefer to use it in combination with Photoshop.

The Debut version of it has lots of useful features and is very cheap (Amazon has it for only $15) so it's worth picking up to experiment with if you don't want to risk the more expensive Ex version.

Played with the trail version a bit. Doesn't let you do much but I made this in about 5 minutes. Very Happy

As a linux user, I will not be able to use it either. It seems like Japanese geeks are a little too obsessed with Microsoft Windows.

Thanks! Looking forward to watching it. Smile I've seen so many different vids using Manga Studio, but not sure which one shows a real good example of the program... I think you have linked me a jewel.

I understand Manga Studio lacks special color effects. If I have the program, I'd definitely be using it along with Photoshop without a doubt. I just keep looking at it with apprehension in Office Depot. ^^;

The Debut version is still limited isn't it? I'll still look into it. Thank you for the info and experience report! ^___^

I have to say, that made me chuckle. Very Happy

And @ domokun: Your "I am a zombie! Rawwwwwwwwwwwr!!" is cute for a 5 minute demo piece. ^^;
