I always liked the small filler where they fall into the marine base. It makes me want to watch it again. Since One Piece is so damn long, I might just wait for the bigger box sets as I'm not a fan of the 13 episode box sets (stopped buying them at Season 2, Third Voyage).

I nearly forgot about the small arc with Foxy & crew, but that whole arc has such a filler-ish feel so I never liked it too much. The awesomeness returns with episode 228 in my opinion.

I'm still waiting on when the next boxset is coming out. The whole series is on hiatus...

I liked the Foxy arc though; I hope he returns in a later, more significant story arc.

Is this true that this DVD set is the last one FUNimation wants to make? It's a weird spot to cut it off. I was looking forward to checking this arc out, since I follow the manga and I heard this Jonathan filler arc was very nice.

No truth to it. FUNimation has said several times this summer they're currently in negotiations for the license to more One Piece episodes.

I love One Piece, but after the Sky Islands (pretty weak sauce and rather blah, when compared to Arlong (freakin' awesome) and Crocodile (just plain awesome, but made epic with the addition of Robin) I was hoping for some good filler to laugh at. No such luck.

The whole time I was watching this filler arc I kept asking myself: what's the point? It wasn't funny. It didn't advance the plot. It wasn't interesting or add to the world of One Piece. There was no character development. If anything, it was something we've seen done many times before.

Good filler, I think, reminds me of those really good monster-of-the-week episodes from the X-Files, where the story doesn't engage the main plot or arc, but it's REALLY freakin' good (spooky/funny/scary).

Sadly, too, I didn't like this ark as it highlighted some of the faults I have with One Piece, most of which have to do with Luffy--that he's the only Straw Hat capable of defeating that arcs current most evil evil (not like the ship isn't full of killers like Zoro or Robin), or only his powers save the day, or... his childish stupidity -childish stupidity that ceases to be funny, only childish and stupid- can be just plain grating. I know this is a "kids" show, but... yesh.

He is the lead and it is a dyed-in-the-wool shonen title, but a small part of me keeps hoping One Piece will grow beyond such simplistic formulae.

One of the hallmarks of this genre & show is the power and value of friendship: that together, as a team, there isn't anything we can't do. I wish they'd show more of the TEAM rather than a show about a hero and his handful of quirky or sexy aslo-ran sidekicks.

FUNi IS making bigger 26 episode box sets. Look them up on Amazon.com. They are the One Piece "Collection" sets. They are about to release the second collection. It's a great opportunity to catch up once they reach where you left off. They're only about $19.99 each.

Wait, what?! Water 7? How far away is it? And without getting all spoiler-y, what makes it so good?

You're about 22 episodes away or less if you skip a small filler arc. Water 7 establishes the Straw Hat pirates position in the world of One Piece as they become a more infamous entity. lol what I said is pretty vague, but I didn't give any spoilers. One Piece gets progressively better so keep watching.

If you continue with the Funimation release, you might have to wait a while though since it seems like they are nowhere near in getting a deal done, and now that they are releasing season sets, they might wait till they finish this run before they release new material. Mad

Yeah, the Water Seven/related-islands saga is also heavily character-oriented, with a bunch of Straw Hats either developing considerably or firmly establishing themselves as what they are. In addition, all of the Straw Hats have to pull their weight in battle, even Usopp. spoiler[Luffy actually takes on the second-in-command, with Usopp incapacitating the real villain and Robin finishing him off.]

I think this is the point in the series that the series starts to feel really cohesive, as it brings back a number of plot points in previous stories. In some ways, Alabasta and Skypeia actually build up to this one.

Also, if you feel that Luffy is just getting all the heroics and victories like a typical shonen protagonist, well...starting at Sabaody Archipelago, it's no longer like that. Let's just say that.
