Hmm. At last, Kokoro Toshokan will have a rival for the title of "anime where nothing really happens, but with great charm".

i think it already does...Piano. hahahaha, minus the charm..... Besides, I think Ichigo Mashimaro will go more along the lines of Azumanga Daioh. Here's to hoping that the anime will be a worthy adaptation of the manga =)

Moreso than Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou? Or dp you consider YKK to be more of a manga series than an anime, since so little of it has actually been animated? |

Ah, I expected someone other than me and abunai would mention YKK. And yes, its manga version really shines, although the beautiful music in (both) OVAs contributed some spiritual-like experience to me (and I'm not even slightly religious). YKK's scale of character development is matched by none of other "Slice of Life" manga -- the only comparable ones are Nausicaa (manga) and Juuni Kokki, both are in the "Saga" genre. Most works in "Slice of Life" genre put your mind at ease, with comedic reliefs here and there, but they don't move, echo, or resonate your soul. YKK does. And finally, YKK has no fan service. EDIT: The official site's character intro page has their romaji first name first -- aiming for potential overseas market? And why do I had a hunch that Ana Coppola is voiced by Mamiko Noto before seeing this cast page? Maybe I was too attached to Shimako of MariMite... |

I'll second that spiritual experience - but then, that's the overall effect of YKK.
"Saga" genre, eh? I like that. But then, I would - given my cultural background. Anyway, the difference between YKK and Strawberry Marsh-, um, I mean Ichigo Mashimaro is that the former is actually in the process of telling a (very long and drawn out) tale of great emotional and spiritual import. The latter (and Kokoro Toshokan, as well) is just moe for the sake of moe, with no real story. It's equally unfair to compare IchiMashi and KokoTosho with Azumanga Daioh, since AzuDai actually has a progressive storyline.
Hmm. I don't necessarily see a bit of fanservice as disqualificatory. But still, I do appreciate that Ashinano-sensei is above it. - abunai |

Aside from this, which is just a colour recreation of a panel from the second volume of the manga (the entire sequence where Alpha first meets Kokone is panel-for-panel identical to the manga). And it's not even really a kiss, but, if an android can get embarrassed at the prospect of doing it, it indicates that the process of data transfer isn't completely innocent and mechanical, devoid of emotion. So it's meant to titilate the reader/viewer just a tiny bit. The second OVA series, which takes a lot more liberties with the source material, had one completely inappropriate grope. Hey, remove this ultra-heavy spoiler! A link to this picture is enough.
It still sticks to manga (chaper 57, volume 7 to chapter 73, volume 8), although to a lesser degree. Thanks to music by Choro Club and Taku Iwasaki, the second OVA is even better in atmosphere building despite its weaker storytelling (especially for first time watchers who have never read the manga). Somehow this Ichigo Mashimaro thread has become a YKK thread. |

I don't consider it a spoiler; I even use it for my avvie at RottenTomatoes.com. YKK is one of those series that is fairly spoiler-proof, since it doesn't have a twist-driven storyline.

I accept this argument as truth. YKK is durable in a way that other stories aren't. Hmm. We sound like religious fanatics, you know? - abunai |

Yes you do But I've read up to volume four, so I guess I can see where your coming from (I'm still not as...er, "devoted" as you it would seem ). |

aBE leaps to mind as another manga-ka who avoids fanservice and draws slice-of-life stories that mean something (Haibane, NieA manga). |

Comfy Chair?! What am I gonna do, throw it at him? I'd use a 1kt baka-hammer instead.
Haibane is done all by himself, but I'm not sure who did NieA's story (Abe only did the art part). According to the official page, it was created by gK -- Geronimo Hongo (a character in NieA's story) and... Mr. Shit?! (Kuso-sensei, 糞先生) Well, kuso can also mean a typical style of joke/humor often found in many manga/anime. It's difficult to translate though.... |

I didn't expect that. Then again, nobody expects the Anime Inquisition! (My God man, did you really fail to "get" a Monty Python reference? I am sooo disappointed...)
That's a very good point. Yes, ABe very seldom allows even a touch of fanservice into his stories - though there are a few moments during the NieA_7 anime.... but as dormcat points out, that may not be due to ABe's influence. - abunai |

I've heard Monty Python many, many times, yet I don't have a chance to watch it. |
