Ok i just finished watching neon genesis evangelion, and well the ending left me too confused.
Do i need to watch the 2 movies to better understand this anime?
If i need to watch the 2 movies to answer my following questions then please tell me, ok here goes:
1)What were the last couple of episodes about? What was the purpose of those interview type episodes?
2) Why were all those people Shinji knew congratulating him at the end?
3)What will the 2 movies shed any light (if any) on how the series ended?
Any help would be much appreciated! THANKS!
p.s. I really liked the first 3/4 of episodes but when it started getting confusing it just kinda spoiled it for me, and the ending just left me unsatisfied

All I can say is that End of Evangelion was the ending of the series we were looking for. It is way better and much more clearer than ep 25 and 26.

Ok. I really do get tired of Eva threads. Here is the universal answer that you will get from most regular fans. (As aposed to Raving Eva Addicts who all have a diffrent opinion and will try to force it on you.)
Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of the most diverse anime in the known world. Ask 1,000 people, youll get 1,000 answers. It's meaning, like abstract art, is open to interpritation. There is no "One Answer". Asking will only cause it to make LESS SENSE. the best solution is to see it, and draw your own conclusion.

EoE spoiler as well: The last 2 episodes encompass what is occuring during Third Impact. Everyone's minds have become a single consciousness, which allows the characters to interact as they do. Part of it is them coming to grips with the flaws they have, and the other part is Shinji deciding if he will procede with Instrumentality or not.

They congratulate him because he has come to grips with his flaws, and chosen the path humanity will take.

The movies will show some things that were not in the series, and explain a few things. Mainly The series shows what goes on internally in the characters during Third Impact, while EoE (in particular) deals more with the physical events that lead up to, and take place, during Third Impact
Some people love the movies, some people hate them, but they are certainly worth seeing, especially if you end up liking them

End is the "fudge you" ending. People didn't understand episode 25 and 26 (which really shouldn't be all that hard after watching them a couple of times) so Anno gave them the finger with End.
Episodes 25 and 26 is the GOOD ending. It allows Shinji to create a utopia. Any kind of world he wants. That's what the human instrumentality program is about. While End's ending sucks big time with only Shinji and Asuka left, and they're not exactly fond of each other at that point

If that's the case, then you're really barking up the wrong tree with Evangelion. Even long-term anime fans would probably have to think hard to come up with another series with a more obfuscated ending.
And I'll point out that even the original ending makes more sense on repeat viewings.
