It really does suck if you're an artist who doesn't want your art used for another artist's projects, but the art world won't see it as plagerizism because of how the image is used or altered, and so it's not something that can ever be taken to court. All an artist can do in this case is express that they don't wish for their images to be reused, and hope that wish is honored.

yep that's one of the biggest problems when you become an artist, they take your art, even if you are a mangaka they steal your ideas.

This is in the land of doujinshi, right? Where copyrights-holders don't have as much power?
And what? Pixiv users would invade DeviantArt now? |

in a way I feel bad that their art is being used without their permission... but in another way, 99% of the art on pixiv is fanart, so chances are a lot of the people who are getting upset are using someone else's designs without permission. Hello, moral grey area!

So what's going to happen when these artists discover Tumblr?

Those exhibitions look like Pixiv physically manifested into the room and immediately exploded splattering like diarrhea. No sir, I don't like it.

Get real, if you don't want your images being used by other people, don't post them on the internet. "I want people too see my stuff, but it's still mine and you can't use it waaaah." The same people will then deny the increased exposure in any way profited them or increased their audience. |

In the U.S. something like this would fall squarely in the realm of fair use

Despite what people may think of Pixiv artists, I think a lot of those guys have a right to complain. Even though they have Dojinshi-style appearance, a lot of them are pretty well thought out original arts. A lot of those artworks have interesting composition, color choices, dynamic perspective, and design scheme which are sorely lack in amateurish fan arts. It wouldn't be fair to label all them as Dojinshi artist who rip off commercial works.
Also, increased exposure doesn't equal to more profit. Granted that Internet made better exposure than ever before, but it doesn't mean that every artist will get some sort of compensation or job offers. I think that Japanese have no problem someone using modified or deviated version of their art. It's not funny for them for someone to use their arts straight up and hog all the glory. |

True but the original drawer/artist didn't request to be taken down. Yeah there's no copyright so in the end it's about respecting one another. |

The second artist on that site looks like the guy that took the "Moetron" character from 4chan & 2chan and claimed it as his own. His art looks quite similar to the piece that had her in it. It's interesting this article came up because I was wondering why a good number of artists suddenly disappeared from Pixiv.

I am real. Even if an artist doesn't want their pictures posted on the net, THEY WILL be posted on the net be it via the artist them self, or a fan. And even if you have total crap in terms of morals, some people were raised better thant hat and DO follow the wishes of creators. Your argument is the exact same argument people make to support scanlations. So I say screw your argument; it doesn't help feed the artists, meaning it won't help keep them alive and in the business if everyone takes your stance because there will be no way for them to make a living off of it if NO ONE has values in giving and artist their due. And stealing an artist's image doesn't always insure exposure to the original artist. For a prime example of this, just look at Lichtenstein and all the classic comic artists he stole the images from. He never once gave them credit, and only die hard comic fans with comics from the 40s and 50s know the original creators of those images. You think any of those artists saw a dime or any increase in sales for what Lichtenstein pulled in? They didn't. Not one cent, and it's a shame because it could have helped promote comics for an adult audience in North America. It's a lot less than that, seeing as the number 1 most-used tag is Original: http://www.pixiv.net/personal_tags.php |

you can't stop people from being douches/not-so-nice-people. Click right save as will always be there and if it's encoded/locked out on certain sites then there is the snipping tool in windows vista/7
