According to the manga, he is 28 years old in the beginning.

I dunno, how do they count years in Bizarro World?
Seriously though, I'd say his early forties would be a good bet. He was probably around thirty by the end of the TV series, and Kenji was grown up enough in Reflections for the director to turn him into a detestable token angst-boy...which would probably be around fourteen-ish. This, of course, would put Kenshin into his early to mid forties (assuming Kenji was born within about a year or so of the show's end).

In the 4 episode OVA, I'd say he was about 17 or 18.
Also, remember that it was normal for a guy and girl to be married much younger than they normally do today, as in Reflections, he's probably more likely in his mid 30's instead of mid 40's.
Not sure. Check the dates of certain corresponding historical events to figure the years out better, that's my best advice.

Or you could just read Nagisa's post. If Kenshin was in his mid 30's in Reflections, that would make Kenji about 5.

That's Tsuioku-Hen. Trust & Betrayal, Reminiscence, whatever you prefer to call it.
Reflections is Seishouhen. It's the one that sucks.

Early marriage has nothing to do with it. He was at least thirty by the end of the TV series and childless. In Reflections, he had a teenage son. 30 + approx. 14 = 40-something years of age.

He is 28. They mention it in the second season I believe when he rejoins his master to finish his training.

Gosh you're right. It does suck! I confused Trust&Betrayal with Reflecions .

Wrong! He was 14 when he left Hiko. He is (I think) 15 by the time he faces Saito.
It is interesting that Kenshin's age was brought up. The review of the original Kenshin OVA that was published here on ANN makes the mistake of asserting that the OVA takes place 10~11 years before the TV series. I was appalled by the reviewer's stupidity and even more appalled that the editors of ANN didn't catch the error. Not exactly serious journalism here.
The origin of the misunderstanding is that Saito or Kenshin state that they last met 10 years ago when they face off in the TV series. It requires advanced reasoning to infer that "last met" means that they fought more than once.
Another thing that irritates me about Kenshin is that the translators screw up the use of the terms "style," "school,' and "technique." Particularly in the OVA translation the word "technique" is sometimes used where "school" is the correct word. I think it's simply a matter of the translators not knowing didly squat about martial arts.

ROTFL. Serious journalism?! Dude, it's a *review*, not an exposé of WWII. Not to mention, do you think anyone really gives a damn that a review messes up something so trivial as that? Some people do have a life outside of anime. Get a grip.

The more trivial it is, the more disgraceful it is to get it wrong.
And if you don't take what you are doing seriously, then you shouldn't be doing it.
