If a series is the same in the anime and manga(Naruto and Bleach) witch do you usually choose? Most of the time I go with the anime. But if I started reading the manga before then anime came out I stick with the manga and watch the anime after I finish it.

Um, when exactly was Bleach exactly like the manga?
Or Naruto for that matter? Both shows started back when the manga were just getting popular. So both shows caught up pretty quickly, thus they had to make filler episodes (for example the Bount Arc in Bleach). Pretty much every anime that is based on a manga is at least slightly different. Of course if you go the other way (anime first) then the manga are exactly like the show (well at least most of the time). Of course there are always exceptions to the rule, but most of those are usually re-dos (like Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood). |

Actually a somewhat interesting topic.
I honestly cannot recall any anime ever being 100% like the manga it is based on. There is always some kind of flux from adaption to different media. It makes me think of Ranma nibun-no-ichi, originally Takahashi represented Onna-Ranma with pink hair on the color pages to make the sex change obvious, but if you read the manga Ranma's hair is black, period, in either form. And that certainly wasn't the only change! Personally, some of my favorite shows were original works, where the manga was based on the anime. |

FMA Brotherhood and Shiki are the closest adaptations of the manga I have seen so far. I have only seen a few minor changes in Brotherhood (a few added scenes in the last episode and one filler somewhere along the way), and Shiki remained really close as well.
That being said, I have not read a lot of manga or VN, and the other ones I have skimmed through or read were not that similar (Gantz or Vampire Hunter D were both considerably different from the original). |

The Bakuman anime has been very close to the manga, many scenes reproduced shot for shot.

Minus the fillers, the Bleach anime is almost exactly the same as the manga. Which means the parts of the plot and character development that are allowed to adjust the status quo are virtually indistinguishable. |

I'm not a big fan of the idea of anime attaching themselves to the manga source by an umbilical cord. If I want the manga, I'll get the manga. I don't need a shot for shot copy of a manga in anime form.
That said, when it comes down to it, I go by what I feel what format the story is best represented. If the manga is staged like an anime, then I'll go with the anime. If the manga is doing something that cannot be duplicated by the anime adequately, then I'll take the manga. EMMA is an example of the latter. The anime is OK, but the sensitive artwork of Mori really is the main draw of her stories. So in that case I stick with the manga. On the flip side, shows like Utena and Princess Tutu seemed most at home in animation, so the anime is all I need for those titles. |

Death Note series pretty much was a exact copy of of the manga, scene for scene too.
