I guess the only way we'll be able to read the ending is via the manga adaptation... A bit of a wait, but maybe someone will post spoilers online after this final novel is published. (I rather hope Ryuki and Shurei get together at the end.)

I'd rather someone license the second season before a third is produced... I believe at this point there's little, if any, chance of the novels being brought over. |

There used to be a blog where someone was posting detailed summaries of each book, but I haven't checked it for a while now. I can't wait to find out what happens! I wish we'd get these light novels or more anime, but I doubt it |

I love the story, but the pacing in the anime was...sooo...slow... Many great shojo stories have this problem.
*sigh* I doubt we'll ever get an official translation and printing of the original novels. If Full Metal Panic didn't make it, and The Twelve Kingdoms didn't make it, and even Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit, which was published by Scholastic (!!) didn't make it through the entirety of their series, I don't think Saiunkoku has a chance. @phoenixphire24: can you please PM me the name (or a link) to the blog? I trust that it's not a direct illegal translation, just a summary and discussion. I'd love to check it out! |

I am hoping for a 3rd season. I think that would be the best and quickest way to see the ending of the story.
And even if the anime doesn't get licensed for DVD release, I can see it getting an official stream. |

If anyone wants a link to the blog with the summaries/translations, PM me.
Man, I'm so looking forward to this. Frankly, I'm ambivalent as to whether Shuurei ends up with Ryuuki. For the most part, I just want her to spoiler[survive at the end and live a fulfilling life helping the country she loves.] I personally like having a woman that puts her passions for her country over any personal desire for romance. Being asexual myself, I try to see that in her as well. But if she does end up Ryuuki, that's okay as well, as long as she doesn't give up her passions just to become his wife. She deserves a place in the court! |

Were they ever to publish the light novels in English, I'd be the first fangirl in line to purchase them. The manga adaptations are beautiful
I love this series. I want to know what Ryuuki's up to and Shuurei's fate. |

I just really want the second season brought over for an R1 release, or even have it available streaming. Come on Funimation, you can do it! Anything more would be great since Saiunkoku is one of my favs of all time.

I'd really like to read the novels as well, I've been enjoying the manga very much. I'm kind of glad that it's ending, rather than dragging on though. I wonder how many volumes the manga will be...

You'd have more luck going to a company like Sentai or Nozomi and requesting a sub-only release. Funimation let this license expire along with other Geneon titles like Higurashi, Shana, and Nanoha. And call me skeptical, but I don't see this title pulling in as many numbers as Higurashi - and if Higurashi didn't warrant licensing the 2nd season, well... It just seems so low on people's radars. I hate to sound like a Negative Nancy, but I'm willing to bet the only way we'll be able to see the full series is through the manga. And that's not even half-way through the first season yet. It'll probably take a while to complete. So be sure to support the manga! |

Whelp, just found some spoilers of what happens in the final volume. I'll just directly copy and paste them from where I read them.
spoiler[Shuurei survives. Her life was 'sucked' out by Sakujun, so when dead Sakujun was really killed and his soul was placed in Shuurei, she was restored to live her 'original' life. She worked as a bureaucrat until she's 29, married Ryuuki, had a daughter, and died when she was 30. Their daughter later became an empress.] spoiler[A few other spoilers: Shuurei was Ryuuki's only wife ever. Reishin and Yuushun would become fathers. Anju is Sakujun's half brother. Ryuuki adopts Riou (Jr.) while he waits for Shuurei to settle down, and Riou becomes the prime minister (or something like that) later.] Where I found the spoilers: http://saiunkoku.livejournal.com/407282.html Anyways, my final thoughts: spoiler[I wonder if Shuurei died in childbirth? From what it sounds like she married Ryuuki at 29, had a daughter with him, and died at age 30. Since she was supposedly barren, it was a miracle she was even able to have a child. Then again, her mother was also barren and she still had Shuurei. Poor Shuurei, she didn't get to have a long time with her daughter. ] spoiler[I'm happy to see that Shuurei was able to be a bureaucrat for a good amount of her life, at least. Although I have to wonder if she would have to give that all up to be Ryuuki's wife? (Would she have been able to go back if she had lived longer?) If so, I'm kind of disappointed. Of course the woman would have to give her dreams/life up. The situation is understandable in this case, but still... Then again, I would have been completely satisfied with an ending where she doesn't ever marry and lives the life of a bureaucrat up until she died.] spoiler[I assume she fell in love with him given that she married him (and I doubt the author would want such a depressing, one-sided love), but I haven't read any other detailed spoilers and reciprocated love is not required for a marriage.] spoiler[I'm happy for Ryuuki that he finally got her, for whatever short amount of time she was with him, though I can't imagine how he handled her death. I wonder if he would blame himself? I'm glad they had a daughter at least so that he wasn't alone.] Anyways, for the most part I was pleased with the ending. I hope a 3rd season of the anime is made to cover the rest of the novels. That would be awesome! |
