Noir is a favorite of mine. I have a bad feeling about this.

I think Nikita has proved the market is there for such a TV series.
Just hope they do a good job.

well at least it not another anime turned live action movie (give most movie live action anime in u.s. side were "hmm")
but since this is tv version let see how it goes.
& one more thing casting part really you got to keep it based on the anime.

Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert!?
There's zero excuse to screw this one up.

I'm not worried; in fact, I look forward to this. Noir should translate better to live action than most anime concepts do, as it is primarily a stunt-focused work with little for special effects, is not set in Japan, and does not use concepts specific to Japanese entertainment. ("Girls with guns" did not originate in Japan and is hardly exclusive to anime.) Sam Raimi also has a solid reputation.

And again lol, add Tapert in there. Spartacus Blood & Sand was one of the better new shows in recent memory.
Which makes me cry the more I think about Andy Whitfield's situation.

I'm still slightly baffled by this as Noir was made a decade ago and even its original American release was eight years ago, but nonetheless, I'm enthusiastic about the project. Noir is one of my favorite series, in case you hadn't heard, and I think that it could translate well to live action. Hopeably with fewer flashbacks this time 'round.
There's probably a potential modest upside and nearly no downside to this. At best it yields an enjoyable reinterpretation of a story and characters that I liked that also serves to promote, at least a little, anime. At worst, a bad show that I can happily ignore is made and nobody cares.
I'll be interested to know how many episodes will be made, how closely they will follow the original and whether they intend to try to go beyond the scope of its story, to say nothing of practical problems such as casting and shooting locations. I suspect that 'on location in Paris, France' might be mostly beyond the reach of their budget.
The news story does not make clear whether a whole series or just a pilot has been commissioned, I'm inclined to think that it's a full series, but that might just be irrational exuberance talking.
I wonder if they'll involve the original creators even tangentially. It would be a neat, if improbable, treat if they were to somehow give the voice cast (Japanese or English, if not both), or at least some of them, cameo appearances.

I loved the Anime. But, like all live action adaptations of anime I have serious doubts.

To me, Yuki Kajiura's music is what makes Noir. So even though I'm sure that the action and story from the anime could very easily be formatted into a live-action TV series (such as the afforementioned Nikita), I just don't know how I'll feel watching a shootout without Salva Nos or Canta Per Me playing.

This has me curious... of all the live-action movies to come from anime, this could actually work... Although, if they get it RIGHT, I've LOVE to see the climax in live-action form! The climax was awesome^^
...too bad Yuki Kajiura most likely won't be involved

I wouldn't have been worried, but then I saw Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Shows like Xena & The Legend of the Seeker were decent, and they had actual action sequences which actually *gasp* had actors who were more-or-less trained to fight performing fight sequences. Fight sequences which were fluid, and only used CG to enhance as to create outright, sequences which did NOT use the crutches that modern films fall back on (shaky cam, quick cuts, disembodied punches). The Legend of the Seeker even used a large number of slow-motion shots to showcase the fights that they trained the actors for (possibly as filler, but then it was good filler IMO) and to indirectly mock the rest of the film industry which eschews "real" fight sequences.
Spartacus reneged on that, CG seemed to be employed to create everything, it was like a bad homage to Frank Miller's 300 movie. While I only made it through 2 episodes of Spartacus, I saw enough to have fear. The fact that I made it through 2 seasons of The Legend of the Seeker yet could only get through 2 episodes of a similar work should instill fear.
Just as former action stars who were praised for their ability to do their own stunts, a prime example being Jason Statham, and had lavish fight sequences made a movie or 2 which employed those crutches for fighting and have never returned to prominence, so do I fear Sam Raimi falling into the chasm of easy production at the expense of quality.
To be laconic, I'm afraid this show will continue down the slippery slope of bad acting, arbitrary plotting, horrendous writing, and overabundant atrocious CG that most all American productions seem to be sliding down these days. I'd like to have my fears be shown to be for naught on this, and there's still hope, there just isn't much.
Assuming the production of the show is solid, if anyone can take a Bee Train-wreck and make it into an enjoyable show, it's Sam Raimi who was able to salvage the horrendous Terry Goodkind books.

This is virtually the same story reported last November, I wish they would give us some actual details already.

The difference between November and now is that the live-action series will actually be made. Before, it was still in development and may not happen. By green-lighting the project and giving a series order (not just a pilot), Starz put up the money so it can go into production.
