Ya know I just realized somethng. Strike Witces may be a show where not a whole lot happens inbetween (I've seen both seasons, so I know) that gets in your face about a panty fetish and I may never for the life of me get how some fans can get past that so easily. But after looking at that picture on the article, other than the faces looking a bit less child-like, the characters could possibly make the perfect pin-up models. I'm not kidding, such a thing never occured to me until now.

Excuse me while I fanboy out over this news! (And how in the hell did I not know Witches of the Sphinx volume 3 was out?!?)

As a huge Strike Witches fan and as someone who personally felt very depressed about not being able to get an English version of Tiger in the Dessert, this is fantastic news! I only hope that fans will properly appreciate the effort that is going into this and reciprocate by BUYING these bilingual volumes.

I ask you, how often does something like this happen? Appreciate the chance to prove to the Japanese that this can work and maybe we'll start seeing more examples. Strike Witches is a fun series that can and does develop interesting characters in addition to epic fanservice. The concept alone is fascinating but maybe I'm just hardwired to like this series given that it hits so many of my interests.

Still, I'd encourage anyone who has been curious about this franchise to take this chance to get into it. Your support might help to convince the Japanese to do things like this more often. (Let's show them we aren't all a bunch of rights-infringing leeches!)

Damn, my law school finals are over, I've had several glasses of wine and now this news. I am blissed out. Anime dazed

Kanemitsu's second post on the subject is also interesting, where he explains how this doujin experiment is a new experiment in publishing: http://dankanemitsu.wordpress.com/2011/05/12/the-north-african-front-where-witches-go-where-no-one-dared-before/

I actually feel this doujinshi series has a better story than the TV anime. Possibly since it's just written by an individual, and not a marketing committee.

I can't think of any other time a Japanese doujinshi has had "English subtitles." I'd love to be proven wrong with a counter-example, though.

this is pretty nice to see doujin artist try to get their work payed for and published legally here for us fans as well. I own a bunch of doujins that Imported for japan "some yes are 18 plus" but others are good for stories as well. I hope this keeps up.

I dunno for paper, but for digital distribution, go to eng.dlsite.com and click on the "English Works" part of the yellow Shop Now box on the right side of the page.

I'm not one to normally complain about prices, but the shipping cost for the "Witches of Africa compilation" book from amazon.co.jp made me cringe. It almost tripled the price of the book itself. While I do want to, this is not the sort of thing I can support casually, at least not unless public interest gets large enough that it can justify a shipping price drop.

I think this is a great idea -- I've got a large list of manga I would be more than happy to support in this way -- but yeah, that shipping rate is going to scare away a lot of people from supporting it regularly, if not necessarily at all.

It's more efficient if you buy in bulk (like the Witches of Africa Compilation, Witches of The Sphinx Vol. 1+2+3, and heck, might as well throw in that Tokyo Harmful Books Regulation doujinshi, "サルでもわかる都条例対策").

I also buy two copies of every book to make the item cost/shipping cost ratio better, but...yeah, I guess not everyone's quite as rabid of a SW fan as me. It's not an ideal situation, but at least they're working on it. Quote:

...We are looking for other outlets to stock this material for overseas sales. Stay tuned...[]...To that end, electronic distribution is something we are seriously considering. We realize that some people might simply like to have a digital copy to read at a more modest price. At the same time, we also want to reward those who are willing to pay more for a hardcopy (a physical book).

One idea we are currently floating around is where the printed version will be treated like a deluxe version, aimed for hard core fans, while the electronic version will be customized for more casual fans. We are also working hard to find more distribution outlets to make buying the book from overseas cheaper, but we all have day jobs so progress can be slow. Please understand.

That sounds fair. It's also the first time I ever shopped from Japanese Amazon, so maybe it's just that site that runs on those kinds of ridiculous shipping rates. I've never had much of a problem with that sort of thing from CDjapan, for instance.

Definitely not to flame or anything but I think that a lot of countries would plainly tag this as Child Porn(even if it's not) so I'm guessing this will most probably face a lot of opposition and even if one can get it from Amazon and buy it legally I think you'd still be arrested in the U.S. if you had something like this

Don't get me wrong I'd love to read this but let's face it, vast majority of the public just think anime is CP(be it loli OR not) just because the Characters look (dare I say it) cuter than a lot of 3D people

Just like the negative reviews on Neptunia even though a lot of people ended up buying it both male and female alike

That's absurd, though, since it's not even pornography in the least. It's an all-ages doujinshi. They don't even have much fanservice.

I know and I don't like it as much as you do but tell the Government that. Especially with Strike Witches, just add a few crotch angles and the Banning Nazis will be all over it like a rabid dog on a freshly cooked T-Bone Steak(hopefully not)

I always wanted manga and anime to get a lot of recognition but this is going the wrong way. The general public just make angry or disappointed when they here this kind stuff

Got the Witches of Africa book today, and.... Damn, this is a BIG book. I was expecting something along the standard manga size. (Like most of what you buy through typical American licensors.) A good deal more of a justification for the price now, methinks, even if I just bought the one.
