Can you give us more information on the series? I've never heard of it before. Probably doesn't matter though, since I doubt I get that station. But then again, being an agnostic, I might've just skipped over the channel (I don't watch religious programming unless it's the hilarious stuff that comes on at one in the morning on Public Access).

Flying House was the sequel of sorts to the, IMO, superior Superbook. I doubt most people would be interested because it's definatley aimed for little kids and is also a Christian show. I used to watch Superbook almost everyday when I was a kid, which follows a pair of kids who travel through time to observe biblical events with a trusty robot sidekick, all the while searching for their lost dog Ruffles who disappeared into time. Anyway, after that show was finished up they made the far less inspired Flying House. Flying House followed in the same vein, except this time the characters (who were different this time around) traveled through time in a big, flying house. I never saw too mauch of that show though.

Huh. I didn't know that there was enough of a Christian population in Japan for them to produce religious cartoons.

Well, there is Angel's Egg, but thats kind of diffrent (somehow I don't think the people at TBN would really like its ideas...).
But some of the crap on TBN is gold. I remember watching their prayerthon this year (so thing where they beg for money so they can build a tower to broadcast their network all over the world and "save" people) with a bunch of my friends. The people they have are so nuts thats its funny to watch them. And then they had a little renactment of Jesus' death (with singing of course) Shocked Man, you've got to have seen it to know what I'm talking about. The whole time one of my friends (who's parents are nutty chuch goers) kept calling in their help line. I won't go into some of his calls, but lets just say they often involved "noticing the boys in the locker room" Laughing Gee, I've probobly pissed a bunch of people off now, so I guess I'll go hide...

That never seemed to bother Osamu Tezuka ...

Yes, but according to Tezuka World, that series was commissioned by the Vatican. So there was already a foreign (and predominantly Christian) audience in mind for it during production.

All I remember from watching, also as a kid, on the only channel in the area that showed cartoons in the afternoon. I know in Superbook, the female name was Joy and the robot was Gizmo. But yes, Flying House is much better then Superbook. Talking books . . . blah, but flying house that can time travel, I'll belive that. Razz

That's about as correct as saying most Americans are Christians.

Actually, Osamu Tezuka has also done an entire manga series on the life of Buddha.

There are plenty of Christian based anime. It's just that it doesn't have a very large market over here in the states. I remember seeing another religious anime on a religion network a few years ago. It was an adapation of stories from the Bible (not Superbook or Flying House).

Rather a mix of Shinto and Buddhism, since the two religions are not incompatible.
