Oh man, I love Siren Visual even more now! Siren Visual, you are the BEST!!! The subscription model looks pretty interesting but also seems pretty decent. I'll probably go for the premium membership once I get more details on payment and stuff. Just wondering, with ANN player, can you leave the video to buffer, or is it like Crunchyroll? Hope it's not like Crunchyroll otherwise I'll have no use for HD

Finally, Aussies can now watch anime legally online without having to go through those crappy region lock-outs.

Siren visual are pretty epic, the licences they have been grabbing of late are just awesome. I hope this is succesful I would like to be able to stream even more anime.
The premium subscription looks good to me coz of merchandise and DVD deals not too big on the HD thing. |

For others who have paid (and for those who haven't I guess), is the first episode of Tiger & Bunny loading slowly for you as well? I'm not sure if it's my ISP, ANN or perhaps a whole bunch of people watching it at once. |

Hi ss-hikaru, No, you can't leave the player to buffer. This is a streaming service, buffering only occurs with progressive download. True that big buffer times is one benefit of progressive download, but there are so many other benefits to streaming (like being able to jump to part of the video that haven't downloaded) that we'd be retarded to pick progressive dl. Anyways, Justin is a Wizard at video encoding. Our HD files look gorgeous but are actually very small and use very little bandwidth. With the premium pack so cheap, I strongly recommend buying it for one month to see if the HD works for you. -t |

Okay, thanks, I don't know much about the mechanics for streaming. All I know is that I always have to play Crunchyroll videos in SD despite having a premium membership. I think it's because Australian internet is not that great. I'll definitely be getting the premium subscription though, because it offers a lot more than just HD video. It'd be nice if HD works too though, will give it a try. 
Edit:
Subscribed and tried out each of the video options. At 720 it was very very jerky. At 480 it loaded for 5-10 s before playing 20-40 s worth of video before repeating the mentioned sequence. At 360 was still jerky but the wait times between loading and playing was not as bad. Will give it another go later on to see if it's any better. Edit: found it. I hope this means more content for AU! I don't really care that I'm paying for this in addition to Crunchyroll; if I was buying them on DVD it's not like I wouldn't be paying for each title. Thanks so much Chris & Siren! Happy to put my money where my mouth is - since I've been complaining about the lack of AU streaming (not just at this site) for some time now. Let the good times roll. |

Same issues for me. Crunchyroll can be a real pain. I had to watch Tiger and Bunny at 480p, which was tolerable. My ISP couldn't handle 720p. I'm hanging out for the National Broadband Network. Such speeds are long overdue. |

let me guess, you are on optus? trick is to watch it from about 6am to 11am anytime after that and it is next to impossible |

Not trying to boast, but 720p worked fine for me on my ADSL2 connection with TPG. That said about half way through it stopped loading - I think that was more a random bug than anything else.

to be fair your getting what is expected from isps on the other hand optus does not give it. optus is going through a phrase of upgrades so has extremely bad international speeds (moderately bad around 11am to noon onwards, extremely bad after 6pm) on the forum whirlpool (has representatives of alot of isp's including optus) theres a running theory that optus are deliberately throttling everyone (the 50 odd page topic complaining about international speeds also leads credibility) apparently there is meant to be another month of upgrades before it is all fixed. hopefully in the near future like TPG optus can run perfectly at 720p at any time of day. its really annoying to me because I have a subscription to crunchyroll yet due to work the only real time I can watch anime on it is early on the weekends. |

Likewise, this is very pleasing news and will be interesting to see how it works with titles from Siren's back catalogue as well as future simulcasts. Oh geez, a 30mbit/sec cable connection with Telstra struggles with even 360p. While I applaud this movement by Siren Visual and ANN, they never reckoned on the obstacle that is the internet in Australia. |
