No watching little girls die? Kanon was quite popular here as an anime. I don't think it's a matter of content so much as implementation.

Together! Allegiance or death, Anime World Order! It just doesn't sound as good. |

No! spoiler[Kyubey was right after all!]
Sounds like good advice there. Now that gets me thinking about Saya no Uta... it piqued my interest since Gen Urobuchi's name is attached to it, and so I've been watching some guy's youtube playthrough of it the past few days. (I'm glad I read the whole wikipedia article for it before watching, or else the suspense and horror would gnaw at me more so than it already has). Though the poster was careful (and sometimes even clever) with censoring or cutting them out completely, there were definitely some sex scenes that Nitro+ decided would be proper to show in CG-form. Were they just there to purposefully show just how disgustingly depraved the game world's sheer insanity caused its characters to be? I mean, it's not as if the game was lacking in madness and depravity without it. Did Nitro+ want to see how far they could get-- "Hey, viewer, you may stand sex spoiler[and rape], but can you stand it when it's juxtaposed with spoiler[cannibalism and a world that looks like its covered with flesh and intestines?"] Or was there also some desire to appeal to some fetish I'd rather not know more about? Whatever the reasoning, I thought that such scenes detracted some from what is otherwise a technically well-written psychological horror/ thriller/romance. |

That's the best advice anyone can be given going to a convention. Sadly, few younger than 30 will listen. Ah well, I guess part of the convention experience is putting up with people you'd rather slap silly, and listening to memes being shouted that haven't been popular or relevant for over 5 years (Enough with the Marco Polo bit, find something new!) Anyways, great job picking up the slack here Daryl, and see you at Anime Boston! |

Depends on how you dress. Wear an anime/game T-shirt and you're fit right in. Put on your favorite gothic lolita outfit and you'll be one of many. Wear normal but fahionable clothes that don't scream 'I'm a silly teenager and I want to announce my hobbies to the whole world because I'm so unique and special' and other congoers will think you're lost. |

We once wore excessive hip-hop garbs to an anime convention. Some people didn't know what to think. |

Yeah, big mystery there, right? It was a bit of a rhetorical question in my earlier post... now I think my biggest problem, actually, is the visual depiction of it moreso than the narrative's insertion of it (cwutididthar?), as there is a logic to the sex that's congruent with the rest of the game's story. It's not like more couldn't have been left up to the imagination, because quite bit of the game was: you would only get in-your-face close-ups of the spoiler[people that look like literal sagging flesh-and-gut monsters to the protagonist (thankfully you get to see what the "real world" actually looks like)], and you never get to see all of Saya's true form. (spoiler[and when her real, non-14 year-old girl form is described or inferred, you realize that the protagonist has been consensually banging this messy, tentacled monster throughout the game.]) But nooooo, we have to get a clear view of the characters' sexual activity... Oh, Daryl-- it seems like I just quoted (okay, paraphrased) you here yesterday re: Spring 2011 (though I'm sure my preference for the BL fanservice over moe/loli fanservice won't impress you one whit ). Still, it was a entirely pleasant April Fool's "joke" to find you in Answerman's shoes this week. I may not always agree with you (though I find I often do, somehow), but you are always, always thoroughly entertaining.

Giant Robo perhaps? I love this show, it's amazing looking (IMO), and still available for cheap! Totally awesome show. |

Wow, what a high energy Answerman segment this was! I had lots of fun reading this
Just wondering though...what is the small print on the FLAME WAR warning sign? Is it important? =P Me now going to check out Anime World Order =D |

I agree with this title, and when you feel you're ready for longer shows then advance into GaoGaiGar. The first half is high-energy monster-of-the-week that's pretty fun to watch, followed by a second half that gets more serious and even more enjoyable. The best part is that you can get the entire TV series across two collections for a very fair price; if you know where to go and when to buy you can get it for less than $1/episode. And if you're feeling adventurous and want to try out fansubs then I fully recommend Ring ni Kakero 1. Yeah, the animes themselves are more aimed at otaku audiences since the first two seasons were late-night animes and the past two seasons have been on Animax, but the original manga ran in the same magazine that would later on be the home to One Piece, Naruto, and the title everyone knows: Dragon Ball; if that isn't the place where children's titles can come from then I don't know what is. The show itself is also high-energy, filled with really good action, and is, most importantly, fun to watch. And when it comes to titles like these that's what's most important: Having fun while watching it. Yeah, getting a detailed story and excellently developed characters is a great plus, but if it's simply fun to watch and easy to enjoy then that can certainly be enough. Overall, a very good Answerman. Daryl filled in very well. |

Rightstuf is holding a Mediablaster sales right now so you can get all of their super robot shows for cheap with both halves of Gao Gai Gar going for 18 dollars.
