Can anyone whose bought part 1 tell me about the quality of the Blu-Ray? Is it just another upscale like a lot of the other stuff we've seen?
I already have the DVD set (which I bought even after downloading it) but am thinking about re-buying it if the BR's are good quality. The show is that good. |

AOD's Chris Beveridge had nothing but good things to say about it. People on the forums though, that seems a different story (as usual). Here is the review:

You might as well see some screenshots and judge for yourself.

I would think this would be an upscale so if you own the series already I don't think it's going to be much of a leap. The blu-ray might look a little better but it's a digital show that's not native HD so there's only so much you can do.

The show itself is definitely in HD. So I highly doubt that its an upscale.

Really? Care to point to a source that says this? I've searched pretty widely for information on the native resolution of the masters without much success. If you've found some information on the subject, please share it with us. Just being in 16:9 doesn't make it HD. The masters need to be in 720p or better before I'd give it the HD label. 960x540 works well with 1080i, the format of the Moribito Blu-rays, because of the interlacing, but I don't know if the originals were even shot at that resolution. All this information seems to be kept in strict confidence by the production houses, though not speaking Japanese I'm left to rely on English-language sources. Maybe there's more information available in Japanese? I doubt there's much discernible difference between 960x540 and 853x480 (anamorphic) which the DVDs use. Personally I thnk the DVDs look splendid and don't see much incentive for dipping into my wallet yet again for Moribito. |
