On Utada's (aka Hikaru Utada) website you can know find a 30 second clip of her first English music video, "Easy Breezy". It's only 30 seconds, but thats ok.... for now.
you can find it at: www.utada.com |

>.< The Hikaru fan in my is wanting to cry. Why the heck do they have to make her official debut THAT song. It's a horrible song that annoys me because it's focusing on the fact that she's Japanese, and for some reason because of that I get the feeling they're trying to sell her music based on that fact. Not only that, but that music video makes me cringe. First, we see Hikaru in a swimsuit, and then, well, the whole video is just... ick. I always loved her Japanese music videos because they were creative, and did not focus on sex appeal. I'm really not enjoying the attempt to "Americanize" her.
There. Done with my Hikki-chan rant. I hope to see better stuff come from this cd. |

it actually was a 30 second clip, I'm not crazy! I watched it the day before I actually posted it, and then I think they added the whole version on the same day I posted it here saying that it was 30 seconds. If that makes sense....

It is an awful song. They seem to be sticking her in the Radio Disney slot, not giving her a chance to show her actual chops
I'm not a huge Utada Hikaru fan, but I respect her and I know she's capable of better |

Wow. I just watched it, and goodness. I am a fan of Hikaru, but the lyrics, are just really... goodness. That's definently not one of her better songs. She is really good, but that song... eh... Yeah. I hope for better from her cd... |

Since the cd was released in Japan just yesterday *or a couple days ago* I was able to download the whole cd, and it's a big major let down for me.
I think there was only one song I liked the melody too, and everything else melody and lyric wise was just painful and not really good enough for me to try and commit to memory. I do remember one song being about her meeting up with a "dirty blonde texan" and then there was another song that again repeated the whole "I'm Japanese, you're caucasian, let's get it on" thing. I couldn't wait to buy the cd before and support her American release, but now I don't know since if I do buy the cd, I know I'll never listen to it. |

Trying to appeal to a different audience. Its quite likely that she had little to no choice in the matter. It happens all the time when 'new talent' try to break into big time, they just sit back while the company does everything for you except sing the song. Don't cry and run away until the second LP comes out.

Yeah they now have 30 second clips of all the songs in the cd, and I'm leaning towards NOT buying her cd anymore. I'm a big fan of hers and I feel let down, but I hope that in her next album she goes back to doing her stuff.
I know hopefuly she doesn't go all Britney on us. She needs to start gaining respect for her talent and not her body like she did back in Japan. |

Fan of jpop though I am, I'm pretty sure you've all scared me away from watching this video. I've never been a big Utada fan, but I have a feeling the sugar content in her video would send me into a hypoglycemic fit. :: shudder ::

i don't think that it's a huge deal with her showing some skin. I mean, it's not like she's walking around practically nude. She is an attractive girl and i guess whoever made the music video didn't think much about it. But I have to agree, her and her new record label really needs to focus on her singing and her songs from now on.
p.s. is she still signed with EMI? |

As far as I have read she has switched to a new label, Island Records. I really didn't like the album when I first listened to it. It is completely different from her Japanese music. However, after randomly listening to it for a few hours it started to grow on me. I think this album is a lot more experimental than her other releases.
I do agree that "Easy Breezy" was a poor choice on the record labels part for her first single. I think there are better songs on the album that would have showed her talent a bit more. Most of her "hardcore" American fans seem to be looking at this album as a different personality, so to speak. Utada rather than Hikki. |
