Very cute!!
I love it! Although, as a minor knitpick (har) to the article poster - the doll looks needle felted, not knit and then machine felted. Needle felting is where you take clumps of animal fiber (wool roving) and then stab the crap out of it where a barbed wire. I can't imagine making a doll that size with needle felting...the process can be very hard on your hands. (and the needle is extremely sharp, so don't miss your target!!) Extremely impressive.

Thanks for the tip, I hadn't heard of needle felting! I knit some, but I've never tried felting of any sort, it kind of scares me

Felting knitting is fairly easy, from what I've heard. You knit something with really loose stitches, and make it much larger than it needs to be, agitate it in a washing machine, or in hot water, and bam, you've got felted wool. I've tried it before, and honestly, it wasn't my thing, but a lot of people love it. This Chi doll is beyond adorable. I'm reading the manga in Japanese right now, and it's become one of my favourites, simply because Chi is just that cute. This makes me want to learn needle felting, or break out the amigurimi books and attempt to crochet a Chi doll. |

Dang! That's an impressive piece of work. Chi's Sweet Home was the first manga I read entirely in Japanese. Chi speaks with a 1st grader's vocabulary, so it's a really good one for that.

It's funny, because most people recommend Yotsubato! as a first manga for people starting out with Japanese. Personally, I feel Chi is a much easier read, once you get used to her baby talk. Yotsubato! is probably more useful for teaching new vocabulary, whereas Chi is a nice relaxing read, and gives a real feeling of accomplishment when you realize you can understand most of it. |
