Crappy news. I have the first dvd only because a friend gave it to me. At 50 volumes, I highly doubt I'll buy any more. I have niether the patience nor the money.

The only two reasons I haven't bought this is because 1) It's expensive as hell buying each volume at $8 each ($400 for just the series and $480 including the movies and OVAs) and 2) It's 50 f-cking singles.; 62 if you count the movies and OVAs. I'm no stickler when it comes to shelf space, but even I have my own line that I have draw.
Now, since they're losing the license, if they want to drop those suckers down to a dollar or two per volume, I'll bite and then litebox it to save space. What I'll do with all those extra cover wraps is beyond me, but I'll figure something out. I do like how Animegio tells us way in advance when they're losing a license, though. It gives people time to sit and think what to do. I wish the other companies were more open about that stuff. |

Wait, I thought UY went out of print years ago. I remember seeing the DVD form of them several years ago, but I haven't ever actually them but maybe once.
Too bad though, I thought since Inuyasha got a final season, maybe Urusei Yatsura would be remastered or maybe even made into Blu-ray form. I am seriously amazed Animegio is (a.) still in business, considering I haven't heard any news of them licensing anything since probably Your Under Arrest. (b.) the fact UY has been in print all these years. (c.) the fact that people are still buying this series, given how old this series is. It's very rare to hear news about very old series being bought and still be in print. But mostly, I am surpized Animegio is still in business. |

You do know Animegio is more rooted in Live Action releases than anime, right? Just because they don't do anime anymore doesn't mean they'd close down show completely.

I actually thought they closed down too because of people listing their products, on sites like eBay, as being OOP. I've never seen their logo on anything else aside from the older anime shows they licensed. I didn't even know they've been doing LA releases. ![]() But you would think that they would pick up some new/more anime, considering their company name. On a side note, I'll have to get the rest of the movies/OVA's now. I refuse to buy the 50 single DVD's as that would take up almost an entire row on my shelf. =/ |

Glad I picked them up in 2007. Hurry up everyone! UY's a great way to learn about Japanese history and culture.

Considering it was at least two years since I last went on there website, it doesn't really surprise me. And apparently, cel shades (according to Animeigo) are made of toxic waste and can't be disposed off easily. That is probably why the Ranma 1/2 cel I bought several years ago was so cheap. In fact, I always wondered why cel's were so cheap and now this actually answers a question I have been wondering for almost a decade now. I've got to say, the revamped Animeigo website looks much more modern and the background history they have is actually very interesting and very fun to read as well. It's professional, but at the same time, not bland or stereotypical and is actually pretty hilarious as well. So out of curiosity, when was the last time they licensed a anime series? I also wonder when they last dubbed a series as well. |

If that includes Beautiful Dreamer then good luck finding it since that went out of print when CPM went under (or perhaps before that). |

I already got that one. Bought it last year for $10 at my local DVD store. Guess they didn't know that it is OOP as they could have sold it for higher. ![]() |

I'm actually looking forward to whenever I'll embark on my first hunt down of super OOP anime items necessary to complete a collection.
My debit card is considerably less enthusiastic. ![]() |

I will pick up the rest of the movies and the OVA. Theres no way I can afford the 50 volumes of the TV series at this time.

Pity.
Luckily I bought the 6 movies last year, the second maybe a bootleg ![]() You could take a look at its affiliate in the UK, anime-on-line? It is the web shop of MVM and sells those DVDs. At least the 4 last movies (0.99) each and the complete OVA set (3 DVDs at 9.99) are available. Just for your information and perhaps to ponder about. |

It's always a pity to see a classic go out of print, and as this one doesn't have much of a fanbase in the US, i can't imagine it ever getting license-rescued. I guess this means i need to start getting the rest of the volumes ASAP, as i only have the OVAs, movies and 7 singles from the TV series at the moment. The timing is pretty bad, though, because i've recently spent a lot of money on a bunch of anime cels and sketches.
Speaking of which...
I'm sorry, but i honestly couldn't help laughing at this part of your post, because that's just completely ridiculous. The price of anime cels has absolutely nothing to do with the material they're made from (which is plain old acetate BTW). The value of a cel is determined by how desirable the image painted on it is to collectors: popularity of the series, popularity of the character(s) depicted, pose and facial expression of the character(s), size and positioning of the character on the cel, importance of the scene shown etc.. Collectors are mostly only interested in purchasing very attractive pieces, so really lackluster cels (often called junk cels, because animation studios usually just threw them out with the trash) can be be virtually worthless, whereas truly outstanding cels could be worth thousands of dollars. Example: Low value cels from a lesser known series: http://www.anime-gambit.com/Html/Minerva.html OP cels from a popular series: http://honinbo.web.infoseek.co.jp/inuyasya0b.htm |

Damn, I still have 60 (out of 62) volumes to go! (that includes the OVA's and movies)
![]() I can't afford to buy much right now, but by the time summer rolls around I should have enough to buy a decent sized chunk of the series all at once. Hopefully random volumes haven't gone out of print by then. It would be very annoying to have the entire series except for a handful of volumes that end up skyrocketing in price. |
