Japan, what you and your weird rating system. I wish they used Neilson ratings, that way you could see how everything compares to the dubs. Like Pokemon getting a 8.3, would never happen in Neilson style.

Yeah... Shiki is doing quite bad in Japan; as for Kuragehime, I'm not surprised it's not doing that well anymore. Both are excellent anime, though.

What you gotta understand is Japanese ratings sample every single household, unlike in America where certain ones are selected. And only the target audience is sampled, unlike in Japan. So a show like Pokemon could have a high adult view base and it would show up, possibly rising a few % points. In America, only the audience is sampled, making it much better for advertisers to select shows to advertise with. That is all ratings is, an appeal to advertisers.

I don't know, is this ignorance, or just fanboy nonsense? DB has been around for a decade or more than Pokemon, and that is still on "top", as you put it. Despite Pokemon usually having a relatively low household rating in comparison with DB, One Piece and Doraemon, it's funny anyone would say "on top". Pokemon is possibly one of the worst examples of how good Japanese animation can get. I'm just shocked some people can praise an animation that was clearly a "spin-off" gig for the real success, that being the cards/games, aimed at 5-10 year olds. Comments like yours are what some people would call blasphemy to the anime world.... the real anime world. (To the web hosts: do something about the forums, ads, etc. Not long ago this very exact page tried to launch a virus into my computer). |
