Surprisingly great choices. Historie and Tatami are two of the most complex and mature, yet compelling pieces of art done in Japan in the last few years, they totally deserve their respective awards.

I'll be honest, I only read Bokurano. But I loved it. The anime... is shit-tier though...

The Bokurano anime had "Uninstall". That is enough for it to exist.

Really happy that Tatami Galaxy won this award. Masaaki Yuasa is one of the directors that I really try to follow nowadays. This was (as far as I know) his first attempt at an adaptation instead of an original work, and I think he did a dern good job at treating the source with respect but also adding his own touches as well.

Not really. Unlike many awards given out, the Media Arts is generally a strong indicator of actual quality.

Haven't seen or read most of those, but Tatami Galaxy definitely deserved it.

some great titles. This just makes me wanna read Historie more and more. please somebody license it!

Also great to see a Naoki Yamamoto title. I'm a big fan of believers, and I'm curious to know a bit more about Red.

I read the first volume or two in fan translations, and it's very, very good. I never finished it, and I really want to know how it ends... well, beyond the basic history of Alexander the Great and all that. There are so many great titles out there, and so few of them get licensed, I guess because they aren't "marketable" enough. Crying or Very sad

Really glad to see Tatami Galaxy, Mai Mai Miracle, and Fumiko's Confession honored. With maybe the slight exception of the last title, they aren't super-major/well-known names like K-ON! or Gundam, even though they have been critically-lauded. The Media Arts Awards have a pretty good track record at picking appropriately notable work, even a few that go against the grain (though those picks are usually found in the "Recommended Works" category).

I'm SO happy with a lot of these choices, especially Historie! It brings a glimmer of hope that maybe the series will a little attention and the possibility of a license for it. (Hahahaha, such a far-off hope!)

My thoughts exactly~ I haven't actually watched it, but "Uninstall" was uberly awesome epic win...and I've got the Teto version on my iPod.

I watched a few seconds of the first episode once, but it was late at night and I was just waiting for something to happen. I've heard it's awesome, and I'm a sucker for mecha...and it's Gonzo. Anime hyper More reason for it to exist.

It's great that more and more are getting interested in Yuasa's work. Just adding a correction, Yuasa's first directorial feature, "Mind Game" is actually a manga adaptation.

I'm really glad to see Tatami Galaxy recognized for being genuinely good. It's the best thing I've seen that was released this year, and aside from a few discussions I've read on ANN, I hadn't seen the show mentioned anywhere. Maybe this will encourage more people to check it out. It's got a different flavor than most series out there, distinctive characters with quirks, and actually ends up saying something significant about how people relate to each other.

Now, maybe I need to check out Historie, if it's a period piece...
