People who watch Anime can tell many references to China in japanese animation (characters, lands, teams, etc.)Why? Most of people know Japan and China have a historic rivalry in many levels (politics, economics, sports), but it always can be found a tribute to China in anime. Is this an example of admiration japanese people feel for chinese culture? Could be a way to beg forgiveness because of crimes committed by Japan in the past (WWII)?
What do you think?

I believe they're just expanding their horizons, and making use of a rich source of stories.
I don't think there's that much gap between anime & China, or anime & England/US. Wherever there's an inspirational model overflowing... there will be writers interested.
Which brings me back to the same thing I said on a thread about the lack of anime featuring Middle East's religion: the lack of sources. If there's exposition, there's a story structure.
If they really felt bad about China (to the point it'd interfere with their fictional creations), I doubt they would've distorted and killed so many Chinese in anime like Souten Kouro (Three Kingdoms), and so on.
What do you think?

I think the tributes to the Chinese is partly due to the history Japan has had with China since its formation. If you read about it in history, the Japanese developed their country based off of many systems used by the Chinese including the writing system and possibly even the spoken language(as many Japanese terms sound exactly the same and mean the same thing in Chinese). There is also the implications in history that the Japanese were originally Chinese people who left the mainland to form their own country. So because of this, I think that the reason why anime has a lot of references to China is because most of the back stories or whatever elements used in them probably originated from the Chinese, which is why they are referenced many times.
*Also, the 3 Kingdoms is based off Chinese history, although I do not know much about it despite being Chinese.

China and Japan have a shared history. They have shared mythology, religion, language, martial arts, etc.
