So this film has like three directors now? Maybe one of the Anipages people can fill us in on the job descriptions behind these gigs.

Yes, I'm so psyched for this.
It looks like a more child oriented film huh? The drawings remind me of Kaiba a little bit, that's a good thing. |

Does anyone know how involved he was in the film? Was it enough to see his "stamp" or was it in the early pre-production stage?
It must be really weird for the people who are left creating the film. Imagine having to finish something Satoshi Kon started. You have to do a fantastic job because it's the last legacy of an incredible creator, but if you stray from what people think he may have intended, then you're the one who ruined Kon's last film. |

Evidence suggest the screenplay was completed as was the storyboarding. So I would imagine this is in the shooting stages of it's animation.

You just KNOW they're gonna put "Dedicated to Kon... Our most beloved protege..." at the end of the movie.
Best news of the year IMO. And... we also know that we'll license this sucker up... and take VERY good care of it. |

I am shocked Itazu being named considering he hasn't really done much, but he has worked on with Kon with Paranoia Agent, but Toshiyuki Inoue is an amazing talent (just look at the opening of Medabots) so its good to see him as co-animation Director.

Yes, the storyboard was complete at the time of his death. I can't remember where I heard it but I know that part was done. Madhouse will do a great job because they don't want to let Satoshi Kon down. I'm sure they want his last film to bring a lasting impression on what kind of director/creator he was. |

I didn't know that the person who composed music for several of Kon's projects was the same person responsible for the music of Berserk. That's cool.

didn't Satoshi Kon's last twiter post indicate that the film was 80%-90% done? that they were almost done with the animation side of things and that all that was really left to do was add the audio? i thought Justin explained that on one ANNcast, didn't he?

@TJ_Kat ... yea, that's right. i'm not sure all the places i saw bits and pieces of it, seems like GATSU was putting together things he was seeing in various places and sharing them here, but i do remember in Kon's last blog entry he says they were bringing him "rushes" while he was sick at home. and yes Justin, i think, said on an ANNcast that meant they were probably 85-90% done with the film. and i think i heard that same thing you did about the audio.
of course watching his interviews on the films released here in the states -- he was clearly totally hands-on at every step, and the book The Illusionist suggests he might come up with new ideas and make changes at nearly every phase of production. man ... part of me can't wait to see it ... part of me feels like its all unreal, just a numb floating ... the way Maruyama conducted himself and was with Satoshi Kon at the end, the things they said together ... i totally trust Madhouse to be in Satoshi Kon's corner and do this right. it must be terribly hard for them all. Itazu's credits are incomplete and it's on my list to do. He was also an animator for Paprika, along with being an animation director on Paranoia Agent. Nice to know that Toshiyuki Inoue is working on this, though I suspect that he was already an animator and he got the additional task of being an AD due to the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the film. You don't see realistic animators like Inoue, Okiura, Nishio etc. popping up all over the place nowadays, so it's always good to know that they're still active. Of course, Kon was one of the few directors who demanded realistic animation so where are they going to get work for future films? |

This is good news. I've been wanting to see this film even before the unfortunate death of Satoshi Kon.
