ADV Films Announces June 8 Street Dates
Azumanga Daioh: Festivals!; Aura Battler Dunbine: Battlers of Byston Well; Happy Lesson: Mama Mia! OVA; and Wedding Peach: Spring Storm
HOUSTON, April 21, 2004—ADV Films, the #1 producer-distributor of anime in the U.S., today announced its June 8 street dates.
AZUMANGA DAIOH: FESTIVALS!
ADV Films today formally announced a June 8, 2004 street date for the second volume on DVD of Azumanga Daioh, an acclaimed anime series that premiered in early 2002 in Japan. Produced by Genco (Serial Experiments Lain) and JC Staff (Excel Saga), Azumanga Daioh follows the day-to-day adventures of a comical group of high school girls and their equally eccentric friends and teachers.
The popular Azumanga Daioh manga series was released by ADV Manga late last year, with the fourth and final installment being released April 20, 2004.
It's fall, and that means festivals! Yukari and Minamo's life-long rivalry shifts into high gear as their students square off in a winner-take-all, school-wide sports contest. Later, even more madness is unleashed when the culture fest brings out the animal in students and teachers alike.
Of course, if you thought everyday life with these girls was surreal, a series of revealing (and sorta freaky) dreams shows that reality is nothing compared to what goes on in their heads!
Whether it's a sports fest, a culture fest, a carnival of dreams or a host of crazy cat antics, every moment is sure to be a laugh fest! The second kitty-chasing, relay-racing, Osaka-spacing volume of Azumanga Daioh will have you in stitches!
Collector's Edition Available: The first volume of Azumanga Daioh is still available in the standard single DVD and in a custom series art box sized to hold the entire six volume series, plus this collector's edition also includes the first two of five limited edition character collector's pins. The third character pin will be packaged with volume three, the fourth in volume five and the fifth in volume six. ($39.98 SRP)

AURA BATTLER DUNBINE: BATTLERS OF BYSTON WELL
ADV Films today announced a June 8, 2004 release date for Aura Battler Dunbine: Battlers of Byston Well, the sixth volume of the 49-episode anime classic.
First broadcast in Japan in the mid 1980's, Aura Battler Dunbine is widely considered one of the finest and most significant titles from the “golden age” of televised anime. Conceived by Yoshiyuki Tomino (creator and director of Gundam) and based on Tomino's novel Wings of Lin, Aura Battler Dunbine has long been celebrated not only for its exciting plot and extraordinary mecha designs (by Studio Nue, of Macross fame), but also for the series' emphasis on strong and detailed characterization and the consistently excellent quality of its animation (produced by Sunrise Animation).
While the crew of the Zelerna repair then battle-damaged aura ships, they must contend with a new challenge – what to do with Lady Elmelie – who recently joined their ranks after escaping from Laas Wau. Elmelie's presence puts a serious kink in the delicate interpersonal balance between Neal Givens, Show Zama and Marvel Frozen. Meanwhile Todd Guinness re-enters the fight – only this time as a hired mercenary for the treacherous King Bishott.
Aura Battler Dunbine: Battles of Byston Well (SRP $29.98) is a DVD-only release, containing four complete episodes. Includes both English 2.0- and Japanese 2.0-language versions, with English subtitles. Extras include: a production portfolio; clean opening and closing animation; and ADV previews.

HAPPY LESSON: MAMA MIA! OVA
ADV Films, the #1 producer-distributor of anime in the U.S., today formally announced a June 8, 2004 street date for the DVD release of Mama Mia!, the Happy Lesson OVA. Happy Lesson tells of Chitose, a teenager who suddenly finds himself surrounded by a bevy of beauties. But these ladies aren't vying for Chitose's romantic affection—they all want to be his mother! Happy Lesson: Mama Mia! revisits these characters by telling all-new stories that serve as companions to the TV series. Happy Lesson was produced by KSS (Wedding Peach, Oh My Goddess!) and directed by Akira Suzuki (Blue Submarine #6, MAZE).
The series you love is back for extra credit! After following Chitose through fourteen episodes of mayhem you may think there isn't any more insanity left. But you would be wrong. And these three expanded episodes of Happy Lesson are living proof!
Things get off to a hilarious start with an alternate version of the very first episode. Then join the whole extended family as they take a vacation… and take a quiet seaside resort by storm. Finally, the holiday season will never be the same once you've spent a crazy (and heartbreaking) Christmas with Chitose, Minazuki, Hazuki, and the Five Moms.
Maybe you thought you'd seen it all, but you haven't seen anything yet! So make sure you get to your seat in time to catch the ultimate Happy Lesson experience!
Happy Lesson: Mama Mia! OVA (SRP $29.98) is a DVD-only release, containing three complete episodes. Includes both English 5.1- and Japanese 2.0-language versions, with English subtitles. Extras include: reversible cover; production sketches; clean opening and closing animation; and ADV previews.
