Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra stated to Variety on Wednesday that the company will launch Crunchyroll as an Amazon Prime Video add-on channel in India and several Southeast Asian countries. He stated that it will launch on Amazon channels in the "next couple of months."

When speaking about Sony's plans for the service he went on to say that "Crunchyroll is not distributed substantially in Southeast Asia at this point or in India" and that Crunchyroll will be the "primary driver of growth" for Sony Pictures Entertainment in the future.

Vinciquerra also stated regarding the recent announcement of Sony Pictures Networks India's managing director and CEO NP Singh stepping down from the position, "we're looking to replace him very aggressively." He added, "We have a laundry list of very good candidates that we can choose from to lead that business, because it's a great business."

Crunchyroll announced its first slate of Hindi and Indian English dubs in November 2022 as it introduced subscription tiers for Indian audiences. It established its second office in India in March 2024.

The company began streaming several of its anime titles in India on March 1, 2022. Funimation and Crunchyroll announced on the same day that Funimation and Wakanim's anime library and simulcast content had moved to Crunchyroll. The company appointed Rahul Purini as CEO in April 2022 after several years as COO of Funimation.

Sony's Funimation Global Group completed its acquisition of Crunchyroll from AT&T in August 2021. The purchase price was US$1.175 billion, and the proceeds were paid in cash at closing.

Crunchyroll and Funimation first announced the acquisition in December 2020 with a purchase price of US$1.175 billion.
