Netflix Streams Cells at Work! Code Black Anime in India on July 30

Cells at Work!! season 2, Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- season 2 also stream on service

Netflix is listing the anime of Shigemitsu Harada and Issei Hatsuyoshiya's Cells at Work! Code Black (Hataraku Saibō Black) spinoff manga for release in India on July 30. It will also stream the second anime season based on Akane Shimizu's Cells at Work! manga and second anime season based on the Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- light novel series on the same day.

Netflix describes the Cells at Work! Code Black anime:

A rookie Red Blood Cells confronts a dangerous work environment, risking his every existence to keep a poorly maintained body functioning.

The anime premiered on January 9.

Hideyo Yamamoto (Strike the Blood, Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka) directed the series at Liden Films. Hayashi Mori (The Snack World, Layton Mystery Tanteisha: Katori no Nazotoki File) supervised and wrote the series scripts. Eiji Abiko (Last Hope, Baby Blue) designed the characters, and Yūgo Kanno (Psycho-Pass, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable) composed the music.

Junya Enoki played Red Blood Cell (AA2153), Yōko Hikasa played White Blood Cell (1196), and Kenjiro Tsuda narrated the anime. The other cast members include:

  • Kenn as Red Blood Cell (AC1677)
  • Lynn as White Bood Cell (8787)
  • Yumi Uchiyama as White Bood Cell (1212)
  • Takashi Narumi as Gastric Chief Cell
  • Yurika Kubo as Platelet

Kodansha Comics releases the manga in English.

Harada and Hatsuyoshi launched the manga in Kodansha's Morning magazine and the Weekly D Morning digital manga magazine in June 2018. Kodansha published the manga's eighth compiled book volume on February 22. Kodansha Comics published the seventh volume in English on May 18.

The Cells at Work!! anime premiered on January 9.

Netflix describes the anime:

New cells, new bacteria, new viruses. The Red Bloos Cell and her colleagues are hard at work keeping the body healthy. A cell's work is never done!

Hirofumi Ogura (Black Butler II, Null & Peta) was the new director of the second season at David Production. Yuuko Kakihara returned to write and oversee the series scripts. Takahiko Yoshida returned as the character designer, and Kenichiro Suehiro and Mayuko returned to compose the music. The anime featured a returning cast.

The first television anime of the original manga premiered in July 2018 and aired for 13 episodes.

Netflix describes the second season of Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-:

After the battle with the Witch Cult, danger continues to follow Subaru and Emilia as they confront new obstacles, old foes and death itself.

The anime's second season was delayed from April 2020 to July 2020. The season's second half premiered on AT-X on January 6.

The returning cast members for the second season include Yūsuke Kobayashi, Rie Takahashi, Yumi Uchiyama, Inori Minase, Rie Murakawa, Satomi Arai, and Takehito Koyasu as Subaru, Emilia, Puck, Rem, Ram, Beatrice, and Roswaal, respectively.

The 25-episode first anime season of Nagatsuki's Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- light novel series premiered in April 2016. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan. Crunchyroll also streamed both the Re:Zero ~Starting Break Time From Zero~ and Re:PETIT ~Starting Life in Another World from PETIT~ short anime spinoff series. Funimation released the television anime on home video with an English dub in June 2018. The anime franchise also includes the Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Memory Snow OVA episode and the Re:ZERO - Starting Life in Another World - The Frozen Bond OVA.
