New Manga Project Planned in Detective Conan Franchise (Updated)

Tōru Amuro's Police Academy mates teased in new project launching October 2

The 42nd issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine revealed on Wednesday that Takahiro Arai will launch a new Detective Conan project in the magazine's 44th issue on October 2. The new project's announcement shows an image of the five characters including Tōru Amuro and Wataru Date, and teases, "Now, a new story about these five men unfolds …!!"

Below is an illustration of the same five men that Detective Conan manga creator Gōshō Aoyama drew. The magazine's 43rd issue will have more information on the new project, which also credits Aoyama for the original work.

Arai had revealed in August 2018 that he was preparing a new "Police Academy" arc for Meitantei Conan: Zero no Tea Time.

Arai launched the Meitantei Conan: Zero no Tea Time manga in Weekly Shonen Sunday in May 2018. Beginning in July 2018, the manga began serializing chapters only when the main Detective Conan manga took hiatuses (Aoyama frequently puts the manga on hiatus for research). Shogakukan published the third compiled book volume of the manga on April 10.

The main Detective Conan manga is currently on hiatus. It entered hiatus on September 11, and will return on November 27.

Update: Illustration credit corrected.
