Avex, XVI Establish AniCast Lab Tool for Anime in VR
posted on by Karen Ressler
Entertainment company Avex and virtual reality development company XVI Inc. announced on Thursday that they are creating a tool titled AniCast Lab., which will allow users to create VR anime, such as virtual YouTubers, using XVI's AniCast software and share it.
The project aims to allow for the production of anime at relatively low cost in terms of money and manpower, and by doing so establish new ways of creating anime. In a video introduction to the tool, XVI president GOROman contrasts the "bottom up" approach of users creating their own content to the "top down" approach of anime production committees.
AniCast uses the Oculus Rift and Oculus Touch and motion capture technology to allow users to create 3DCG-animated characters using their own movements. Users can also operate the camera, place items, and change the background.
XVI is contributing its VR technology while Avex is contributing its intellectual property and the anime creation expertise of its Avex Pictures and Flagship Line subsidiaries.
