Viz's Shonen Jump to Preview Teenage Renaissance! David, I'm From Japan Manga
posted on by Karen Ressler
Viz Media's digital English edition of Weekly Shonen Jump confirmed on Monday that it will preview Yūshin Kuroki's Teenage Renaissance! David (Shishunki Renaissance! David-kun) and Seiji Hayashi's I'm From Japan (Jimoto ga Japan) manga in English in its next issue on September 17. Both gag manga will debut in Japan on September 15. (Japan's Weekly Shonen Jump ships on Saturday instead of Monday this week, as September 17 is a holiday.)
Teenage Renaissance! David is about a "typical Japanese high school student" who looks exactly like Michelangelo's David statue. Kuroki previously published a one-shot with the same title in Weekly Shonen Jump earlier this year. He has also published other one-shots in the magazine, and won an honorable mention in the 57th Jump Treasure Shinjin Mangashō (Jump Treasure Rookie Manga Award) contest in 2012 with the "Megaton Panchira Yoshida" one-shot.
The "locality gag" manga I'm From Japan will "overflow with love for hometowns." Hayashi has previously published the "Oidemase Yamaguchi" one-shot and the Chikyū Ningen Terra-chan short manga series on the Shonen Jump+ website and app.
For its "Jump Start" initiative, Viz Media's Shonen Jump publishes the first three chapters of a new manga simultaneously with the Japanese release.
