Sentai Filmworks will release the 13-episode Made in Abyss anime series in both a premium and complete box sets in October. The anime adaptation of Akihito Tsukushi's original manga premiered last summer. The show streamed in the United States on Amazon's Anime Strike service, and HIDIVE streamed the series outside of the United States.
In the story, an enormous pit and cave system called the "Abyss" is the only unexplored place in the world. Strange and wonderful creatures reside in its depths, and it is full of precious relics that current humans are unable to make. The mysteries of the Abyss fascinate humans, and they head down to explore. The adventurers who venture into pit are known as "Cave Raiders." A little orphan girl named Rico lives in the town of Ōsu on the edge of the Abyss. Her dream is to become a Cave Raider like her mother and solve the mysteries of the cave system. One day, Rico starts exploring the caves and discovers a robot who resembles a human boy.
Two compilation films will premiere in Japan this winter and an anime sequel is also in the works.
The Scum's Wish anime series will star:
- Avery Smithhart as Hanabi
- Greg Cole as Mugi Awaya
- Maggie Flecknoe as Akane Minagawa

The anime premiered in Japan on Amazon Prime Video and Fuji TV's Noitamina programming block in January 2017. Amazon Prime Video exclusively streamed the anime series in Japan and abroad, including in the United States as part of its now-defunct Anime Strike service. Sentai Filmworks announced its home video plans, including English dub production, in May.
Sentai Filmworks describes the story:
At first glance, high school sweethearts Hanabi Yasuraoka and Mugi Awaya appear to have the perfect relationship and while the two enjoy each other's physical companionship, they are merely using each other to feel anything other than pain as both Hanabi and Mugi are in love with other people. As this tangled web of emotions continues to ensnare others, viewers are exposed to the painful side of love, making this series often difficult to watch yet impossible to look away.
Sentai Filmworks will release the Scum's Wish Complete Collection home video release on September 25.
