Rina Satō, Nobuhiko Okamoto, Satoshi Hino return as cast; J.C. Staff animates with returning staff

The July issue of Gakken Plus' Animedia magazine revealed the staff, additional cast, and October premiere for the third television anime season based on Kazuma Kamachi's A Certain Magical Index light novel series on Saturday.

Rina Satō, Nobuhiko Okamoto, and Satoshi Hino are all reprising their roles as Mikoto Misaka, Accelerator, and Shiage Hamazura respectively. Atsushi Abe and Yuka Iguchi previously announced that they will reprise their roles as Toma Kamijo and Index, respectively.

Hiroshi Nishikiori, the director of the first two seasons, is returning to direct the third season at J.C. Staff. Hiroyuki Yoshino is returning from the A Certain Magical Index: The Miracle of Endymion film to supervise the series' scripts. Yūichi Tanaka is also returning from the first two seasons to adapt Kiyotaka Haimura's original character designs for animation.

The anime will air on Tokyo MX and other channels.

Kamachi's light novel series has inspired two television anime series, a 2013 anime film, and multiple manga adaptations. A Certain Scientific Railgun spinoff manga has also inspired two television anime adaptations and an original video anime (OVA).

Yen Press is releasing the original light novel series in English, and Funimation has released all of the anime adaptations in North America outside of the A Certain Scientific Railgun OVA. Seven Seas Entertainment is releasing the A Certain Scientific Railgun manga and the A Certain Scientific Accelerator manga in English, and Yen Press is releasing the A Certain Magical Index manga in English.

Dengeki Bunko editor Kazuma Miki announced the third season as part of the "A Certain Project 2018" (2018-Nen To Aru Project) at the "Dengeki Bunko Aki no Saiten 2017" (Dengeki Bunko Autumn Festival 2017) event last October. He also said that the project is "not just Index."
