posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Aniplus-Asia theatrically debuted film in Southeast Asia in April-June

Aniplus-Asia announced on Friday that it has added the Kantai Collection: KanColle anime film to its video-on-demand service.

Aniplus-Asia screened the film in Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia in April, in the Philippines in May, and in Thailand in June. The film also had a second screening in Singapore in May

Aniplus-Asia describes the film's story:

As the mysterious army, the Abyssal Fleet, continues to destroy the seas, only warships that hold a soul, the “Fleet Girls” (KanMusu), have the power to fight back against them.

During the last battle at their headquarters, both sides suffered heavy damages. The Special Type Destroyer “Fubuki” and the other Fleet Girls who took part in the “MI Strategy” managed to secure a win. However, what await them after the fierce battle are only tougher battles.

With the success of the MI Strategy, the headquarters sends the next fighting force towards the south. The battle area continues to increase as they attack the enemy base. With their new Naval base and the accumulation of battle experience, the Fleet Girls continue to come up with new strategies for their battles. Suddenly, an anomaly occurred to the target they were to battle.

What awaits the Fleet Girls are…

The film opened in Japan in November 2016. The film sold 70,000 tickets for over 100 million yen (about US$856,000) on 60 screens in its first weekend, and ranked at #5 during its debut weekend. The film began 4DX and MX4D screenings in Japan on February 11.

Shinichiro Inoue reprised his role from the television anime series as chief production supervisor for the film, and Keizō Kusakawa returned from the television series to direct the film at diomedéa. Kensuke Tanaka, who is credited with the original plan and concept, also wrote the film's script alongside Jukki Hanada.

The TV anime series premiered in January 2015 and Aniplus HD aired a simulcast of the series in Singapore, Thailand, and Hong Kong as it aired in Japan. The series is set in a world where humanity has lost control of the seas. The threat that has taken over the seas is the "deep sea fleet." The only ones who can counter this threat are Kan-musume (literally, warship girls), girls who possess the spirit of naval vessels from days gone by.

The base for the fleet arrayed against the "deep sea fleet" is Chinjufu. There, many various Kan-musume have gathered to live together and work hard everyday in training and other matters. One day, a Kan-musume arrives at Chinjufu. She is a special class of destroyer, and her name is Fubuki.
