Production I.G's "Tate Anime" (Vertical Anime) smartphone app revealed the director and lead cast member for the upcoming anime of Masayuki Kusumi and Jiro Taniguchi's Kodoku no Gourmet (The Solitary Gourmet) manga on Thursday.
Kazuchika Kise (Ghost in the Shell Arise) is directing the anime, while Kenyuu Horiuchi (Guin Saga's Guin, Re:Zero's Wilhelm van Astrea) plays the main character Gorō Inagashira. The anime will premiere "soon," and the app will stream an interview with Kise on Friday.
Kodoku no Gourmet ran from 1994 to 1996 in Fusosha's Monthly Panja magazine (now defunct). The story follows a solitary salesman named Gorō Inagashira as he travels all over Japan and samples the local cuisine found on street corners. The manga already inspired live-action television series and specials. The live-action show's sixth season premiered on April 8.
