Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Films Get Manga Spinoff Series
posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Kōhei Uchida launched Guardians of the Galaxy: Galaxy Rush, a new manga based on Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy films, on DeNA's free Manga Box app on Wednesday. New chapters are debuting every Wednesday.
The manga is only available in Japan and in Japanese. The manga is the serialized version of Uchida's winning submission for the "Marvel" Special Prize manga contest held by Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine earlier this year.
The manga's original story begins when the Guardians of the Galaxy enter the Galaxy Rush, a dangerous battle royale-style race which allows the use of weapons in the realm of Vanaheim. The winner is proclaimed the fastest in the galaxy. (Vanaheim, one of the Nine Realms of the Marvel universe, appeared in the Thor: The Dark World film. Thor's comrade Hogun, played by Tadanobu Asano, hails from this realm. Thor and his companions helped liberate it from Marauders in the film.)
Marvel Studios released its Guardians of the Galaxy film in 2014, and the sequel film on May 5. It is developing a third film for the franchise.
